Yeah, but if the flying keeps getting awarded elsewhere, what's SKYW going to do when their current contracts are up. That's the whole point of this game. I don't care how much money you are making today, if you're not around to spend it tomorrow. The regional game is going to get a lot smaller. The 200's are going to go away. Everyone has lower costs than SKYW, and they can't just rely on their history to win flying. They need to get competitive cost wise or all the flying will continue to go elsewhere.

As far a renewing contracts Skywest controls huge amounts of UAL and DAL flying so much so they can't just take 100 planes from OO and give it to somone else because that someone else couldn't staff it. This also is why UAL will mostly renegotiate XJ's cpa and in the end XJ wont lose any flying. UAL isn't getting rid of the 200's as was proposed by the UAL JCBA. As stated in a conference call.
Skywest INC puashesed up to something like 450 erjs and mrjs, half are options. If they took every airplane that would replace about 3 quarters of the total airframes between the combined XJ and OO fleet.
Skywest INC won't be losing major amounts of flying anytime soon.

Do you even work at OO? You sound like you have no idea whats going on, or has been going on on since 2009. Skywest airlines itself has been slashing cost since 09(thanks chop). Thats why INC made a 140 mil last year even after XJ loses. INC will have a big cash flow problem next year if the XJ cpa isnt fixed or they dont get rid of planes. But guess what they already annonced 2 qtrs ago that they were gonna start to fix that problem. Mind you they can't just fix it overnight. The worst news of all is our pilot group just voted in the smallest overall percentage raise in last 11 years or a pay freeze. We as an employee group of skywest seemed to be only one that has been spared pay cuts since 09'. Although we have seen big increases in our benefits costs.

Neither. SKYW needs to start making some changes or its going to be left in the dust by some of these other carriers who have adapted to today's airline environment. If they just keep saying "well that's the way we've always done it," then they are going to ride themselves right out of business. You can't keep running the airline the same way you did in the 80's or 90's.

Funny...you should have seen how quickly Pinnacle went from black to red. In less than a year they went from making huge profits to bankruptcy. The second you get comfortable "doing the things like you always have" is the second you find yourself looking for a new job because sh*# went down in a hurry. Don't think you're immune. It will come back and bite you in the butt. Don't give SKW that much credit because they are a regional airline just like all the rest. Inc needs to figure it out quickly because the bleeding is bad and getting worse.

Ok, why is it that so many airlines wind up in bankruptcy? There really isn't that many that have avoided it thus far. How much money did American have when they filed, or Northwest for that matter? It's not about how much money you gave in the bank, it's about remaining competitive. I'm not saying that Skywest is headed to bankruptcy, but they are not immune to this trend. Other airlines have chosen the restructuring route in order to remain more competitive in the future. I didn't read Alaskabound's post as you did. I think he was just giving you something to think about, as I am. Cheers
