Skywest

Thanks rcfd13! Good to hear! Im not quite up to speed on the fleet plans but is MSP and ORD mostly -200's? Id be a little weary taking a 50 seater job seeing as the industry in general is going towards the 70/80 seaters. Is skywest slowly replacing them?

You'll get MSP or ORD almost for sure right out of training. Almost all of the new hires usually end up going there. The most junior lineholder in MSP is a Nov. 2012 hire. The most junior lineholder in ORD is an Oct. 2012 hire. You'll spend about a year and a half on reserve in both bases unless thing start moving more.
Upgrade times are about 7 years for the Brasilia and 7.5 for the CRJ. At some point the upgrades are going to get through all the 2007 hires and then there were hardly any 2008 or 2009 hires. It should drop a couple of years pretty quick once the 07s are done upgrading.

MSP is mostly -200 flying while ORD has a good mix of 900/700/200 trips. I'd call it 60% -200 and 40% 700/900.

I talked with a SkyWest mech that I've known for a long time that told me we are getting 6 CRJ 200's out of the desert for crazy low prices. They are putting new engines on them, new paint, and new interiors.
Talk and action within the airline industry is typically a slow process.
The 200's aren't going away overnight.
Word is that something big is to be announced soon, probably that we are whoring ourselves to fly what eagle said no too?
No leverage, no union, no voice?

It's to cover PDT flying, while they get the 175's for AAG that envoy turned down.

There is truth to this... something will be announced very soon. And yes, whoring ourselves out is a pretty accurate description.

I believe SkyWest has one of, if not THE highest rates in the industry for 175s...so I wouldn't necessarily say they are whoring themselves out. However, there is definitely something afoot, and 600 aircraft orders last year wasn't just a fluke. Once the 175 is on certificate you can expect the announcements to gradually come out. The 200 is long from dead but the EMBs days are most certainly numbered.

Is there a lot ready-reserve shifts handed out? If I went to ORD right now, fresh out of training, would it be commutable without a crashpad, or is that not even in the realm of possibilities?
