The classes have been postponed, rescheduled, cancelled, resumed, and otherwise mucked about with at least a dozen times, if not daily, in the last two months. The Dec 26th CRJ class seems to be on.
What was that about having a backup plan?

It's a Voluntary Leave of Absence.
Before everybody here starts freaking out, there has been absolutely ZERO indication that this is being offered, and certainly not any mention of part time pilot work. Nothing from Skywest management, and not a peep on our SAPA pilot forum (which is typically full of the latest rumors).
I've no doubt that "Terrain Inop" is well connected at Skywest, and he/she could very well be getting some accurate information from high up. But I will also say that since I've been here, it would not be the first time that I've heard a "sure thing" from somebody well connected that ended up not being true.
Also, consider this... Last June, Terrain Inop posted here at APC (in this thread), the following:
Of course that wasn't true, and we've since hired at least 300 new pilots, transitioned tons of EMB people, and have had several upgrade classes.
JediNein as far as your comments,
It's been mentioned to you NUMEROUS times that the new hire classes were in flux due to the EMB transitions. It appears that there are still numerous hiring possibilities, it's just a matter of what equipment it will be.
Considering that we have not lost any flying recently, we are launching our US Airways stuff tomorrow, and supposedly we have another increase in summer flying, I'd say this: Everybody relax and enjoy the holidays, and don't go into a panic based on rumors that are pretty much baseless.

Just out of recurrent recently and a very senior sim instructor who frequently hangs out with CC said that nothing but good news and growth to come...take that for what it's worth.
