That is the dumbest thing I've heard. It was already said, alot of airlines have single occupancy. To think you are any less of a pilot because you don't have a roommate is stupid. Why don't you ask some of the union guys at other airlines that have a pair what they think of double occupancy. Oh wait I can tell you.......not a snowballs chance in hell.
On a side note, nothing strange about getting a room to yourself just be sure you get into the study groups. The only person to wash out of our new hire class back in the day had their own room during GS and they never came to the study groups.

Also, consider that once you're done with ground school and move on to the sim, chances are your roommate is going to have a different sim schedule than you and you won't see each other near as much. I remember going a few days at a time without seeing him, but the downside is it was kind of annoying when you're coming in a 2am and he's going out at 4am and you're both inadvertently waking each other up.
I'd probably just pony up for my own room now, but it's a different world when you're on first year pay and walking down to the Taco Bell sounds like a luxury.

I was going back and forth about having a roommate for training at SkyWest, and in the end my cheapness won out and I shared a room. Fortunately my roommate was a cool and considerate guy, so it worked out. But I study MUCH better by myself, and tended towards that most of the time even with my roommate.
There were a couple of people in my class that did not have roommates, and they did just fine.

I'm here to tell you guys: study alone, fail alone. I've also got more time inverted that most of you do right-side up.

I dreaded having a roommate before I went down to training...however, you'll realize a good majority of the guys that SkyWest hires are pretty cool (they weigh a lot on your personality during the interview process). My roommate ended up being a good friend of mine, although he was a partier we made it work and both got through.

I too had a party driven roommate at the wood. Made things more difficult, but you find a way to make it work. Go down the hall and you will find several open doors with active study sessions that will wecome you in.
