Sims are very, very expensive and they are not going to let them sit idle if not absolutely necessary. I think they do shut sims down for major holidays, but only the day of...and they only do that because the sim instructors are very senior and they would quit instructing and go fly the line to get holidays off.
Besides, your first holiday schedule on-line will look like this...
23-28 Dec: Airport Ready Reserve
29-30 Dec: Off
31 Dec - 5 Jan: Airport Ready Reserve
may as well get used to it...

Where did you hear that? It is incorrect. In fact, we just got another email about another job fair that is taking place. Also, not sure if you saw my post above about transitions, but there are a ton of transitions taking place right now.

The airlines, and their training departments, operate 24/7 365 days a year.

You're preaching to the choir here. The point is it would still be crappy (not of Skywest).
Thanks for the lesson though.....

Try going to the corporate headquarters on the weekends. Try getting a hold of someone that really matters on a weekend, if you do they are at home watching football. The only people that work on the weekends and holidays are the frontline employees and the bare minimum support crew. And what about the holidays they publish every year? I don't know what he was talking about, yeah as a pilot you will be working every major holiday until you get above 50% but to say airlines work 365 days a year 24/7 is not telling the whole story.

Yeah... And I'm sure corporate will have 16 days off this month like I do. I bet they don't ever take their work home with them either. Look, I'm not saying its perfect here, but a little perspective never hurts. Trust me, from those of us that have worked a few other places, it could be a lot worse.
