I doubt the company would get a seat lock like that, it's always been one year.
I would bet that the company gets more then one year for a seat lock on the 175. Chip on the jumpseat said the other week that they want really high fences on the 175 for training costs, if you only put a one year seat lock guys will bounce back and forth between the two jets.

I'm pretty sure all of the new hires were put in the EMB. We have a lot of EMB first officers who are eligible to transition to the CRJ. The company has to back fill guys to the EMB first to allow the staffing. New hires will start getting the rj once all eligible EMB guys transition to available spots.

I know but that changed, I have a friend who was in the RJ class for July 8, they called him and told him that they are gonna do a new hire class for the Bro only, so last Monday they started a new hire class of 20 for the bro. As of now all new hires are going to the Bro and all RJ classes are being filled by transitions

What good does another RJ type do for you? Not much, unless you have visions of overseas regional flying.

However, the risk of a training bust on a new type, with the attendant POI scrutiny, is real.

It will go fairly junior unless it goes into a 200-only (or Bro) base, where you could get a significant pay raise relative to the deuce.

Senior guys flying 700/900's in the west are not going to be chasing this thing.

Well I stand corrected. I guess there would be plenty of guys who have served their year on the Bro and are itching to move to the CRJ.

Career progression. If someone is offering a free type rating for an aircraft with a bright future, I'm taking it.

Jet Blue & U.S. Airways fly the E series. Can't think of a major / legacy that flies the CRJ.

Each to their own.

They'll train you when they hire you. Why take a chance on a checkride bust before you've reached your career-destination? Each to his own, but only SWA has a clear hiring preference for those with a type.

This is being discussed on the company boards...nobody has any interest in giving away a three-year lock. It might be fodder during pay negotiations, but it will be in the pilot's favor...if the company wants to change the status-quo, it will cost them something.

There are going to initially be 40 E175s vs hundreds of CRJs. It's likely that someone bidding the 175 would get a pay raise at the expense of a decrease in QOL. There will be less lines, less ability to trade and drop and probably issues with staffing initially. That's going to make the senior pilots who are used to that kind of thing less likely to transition. It may be more attractive to the junior pilots who are used to not being able to drop and flying high credit months.

If they really do add more than a year seat lock to the E175 that will be another factor as well. Even if the E175 is in my base and it would give me a pay raise I wouldn't bid it if I thought it would prevent me from upgrading. I doubt many people will take a 2+ year seat lock if we anticipate our upgrade time to the bro or CRJ dropping.
