You do keep them all after training. Alot of guys throw them away. It would take a flight bag and probally snother bag for all of them. I sent mine home as a new hire via FedEx. For upgrade I drove a car out to SLC and then to Fresno as an airport car, the manuals are still in the trunk.

HI,

Anyone know why SkyWest is interviewing/hiring but not advertising on their web? Just curious.
Could it be that they have more than enough resume on their desk?
Or they only have limited slots available so hiring very small amount?

Also, any updates on future plans for hiring and classes? August class scheduled yet?

Thank you.

I met their recruiters in ORD at the Aero Crew Solutions job fair on 5/18, interviewed 6/18, haven't heard back yet. One class Jul 8, also one early Aug. I seem to recall the interviewers mentioned a class "two weeks" after Jul 8, but I could be mistaken.

Their APC profile lists them not hiring but according to the interviewers they were expecting to be hiring "indefinitely." The profile also lacks any mention of their ERJ orders which have been big news on the forums for a while now.

Maybe I grew up in a totally different generation but going a month without a laptop would just about make me go insane. I envy you people who can do it.
I don't fly for skywest and have never been through their training, but I never go to a ground school or training without a laptop. My wrists ache if I try to take notes by hand any more, and I can type a lot faster than I can write.

At my last upgrade, I think one person in the class didn't have a laptop open. One. He didn't make the upgrade, either. Probably not a result of being without a laptop, but those who had them were able to study more effectively, pass around study materials more easily, and communicate faster and more efficiently. Notes were easier to read and edit or modify, and it was a lot easier to save everything in one place, to say nothing of packing up and leaving the classroom every night with little more than a computer case.

I did not see anyone with a laptop open in our SkyWest class last summer. Most took notes in the binder(s) they gave us. Some may have used iPads--I don't recall. Understand your point, though--it's certainly easier to write it down, then edit it later using a laptop.

When I went through upgrade 2 years ago, nobody had a laptop in class. I own an iPad but found paper easier to take notes with.

I'm a pretty fast typist, but I still prefer pen and paper myself. That method has helped me through four years of engineering school, several type ratings, and numerous 121 ground schools. Seriously, how are you going to quickly sketch out a hydraulic system or electrical schematic on a labtop?

^^^ with this guy. To say handwritten notes were a factor in a dude failing is ridiculous. How have we gotten through over 100 years of flight before the laptop??

Any recommendations as to which hotel to stay for the interview?
