I'm not sure why we are talking about Skywest like they are a viable option right now. I've heard the same rumors as everyone else, that it's imminent, but they haven't had the attrition necessary to rid themselves of the 300 pilot surplus that started them not hiring in the first place.

A quick trip to their website reveals that they are, in fact, still not hiring pilots. They have no recruiting events planned either.

There's a new hire class July 8th and a pretty large EMB-CRJ transition class scheduled for July 16th. The few people I know who are in the pool have mostly moved on to other airlines. I imagine they'll have to do at least a few days of interviews to fill that class.

One of our pilots discovered a lot of us airways 900 flying out east that is more than 4 900s could possible do starting in August.

Flying to cities include:

I do wonder how many people who had interviewed late last year are able and available to start working at Skywest now - I am of the opinion that people have moved on and it's going to be a good sign of the (at least) slight tightening of the labor market at the regional level. If they have to do more interviews to fill the early july class, we can say the mythical shortage is more than mythical, at least a bit.

If this were the case, I'm sure there would be an announcement soon for CLT basing, right?

I don't know where you get that we have a 300 pilot surplus. Perhaps we're a bit fat on F.O.s, but as of 7AM this morning, we have ZERO captains available on reserve in my domicile, and part of that is due to the fact that we've had to be sending them out to other domiciles to cover their reserve needs. Sure, our staffing looks okay until a day or two before, and then suddenly we burn through reserves like they're smuggled in cookies at a fat camp. Crew Support has been burning up the phone lines trying to give away junior man overnights all weekend. Once again, we've waited too long to run upgrade classes. It may not be summer of double-time junior man epic, but things will only get worse as the summer progresses.

This applies to all regionals, at Eagle we are experiencing the same thing.
