At eagle we just had a guy whom flowed to AA last month. He was a line check airman, who was topped out in pay and filled BK. he was making more than 150k at eagle and still had to file bk... Yes that's what these FO,are setting themselves up for!

That might be part of the problem too though. People are used to living one way, then take a massive pay cut and don't make sacrifices, or didn't have any money saved up to deal with the pay cut.

First real paycheck? Most of the FOs I know took a pretty big pay cut to come to the airlines from whatever they were doing before. I made more flight instructing than both first and 2nd year pay at the airlines. I've met other people who came from jobs outside of aviation who took much larger pay cuts than I did.

This career financially is devastating unless you come in with no debt, a good second job and a strict tight budget. The flight schools sure don't push that.

Just think, if only Skywest or the flight schools had a budget/loan management class as part of the indoc curriculum... I don't see that happening any time soon, Sku
I agree whole heartedly though. Having crunched the numbers, it's not pretty for years. I can appreciate the fact that you are getting paid for a Type rating and have no contract, but that doesn't pay the bills at the end of the month or help you save for retirement.

I do, but I also came to this industry with no debt. I had a piggy bank saved up and bought a condo so I am building equity as well (hopefully) but that is the only debt I have obtained since I entered this industry.
