"C. Selection of Republic
10. After careful consideration and analysis of each of the submitted bids in view of American’s business objectives and requirements, American selected Republic and commenced negotiations with Republic in December 2012 for a capacity purchase agreement relating to 53 Embraer E-175 76-seat aircraft. Unlike the other operators, Republic had the ability through aircraft options with Embraer to deploy 24 mostly new E-175 aircraft by the end of 2013 and all 53 aircraft by the first quarter of 2015. The E-175 product was determined by American as best suited for the highly competitive market in Chicago with a product experience that is more similar to a narrow body aircraft versus the CRJ-900.
11. Republic is also not restricted from operating on behalf of American at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, one of American’s primary hubs for which regional feed services are critical to American’s operations and strategy. Republic's economic proposal was slightly better than the cost assumption in the Debtors’ business plan for large regional jets. Additionally, Republic will acquire, finance and/or own all of the aircraft without any financing or underwriting by AMR or any other Debtor. In sum, Republic was essentially the only operator that could meet all American’s criteria and still be able to provide the required services at better than average costs. "

Looks like Republic didn't learn anything from PNCL about bidding contracts below cost, especially while you're in contract negotiations.

I'm a big proponent (whatever the F!#k that means) of whoever is going to hire me right now. I'm in the pool at Skywest but I can't wait forever, so if there's no hint of upcoming classes, I will target everyone on airline apps who owns an airplane. GoJetsssssssssssss included!

Excellent find, that explains it as clear as crystal. In a nutshell Republic bid below cost, Skywest didn't have the E175 type, and Skywest couldn't operate out of ORD due to the UAL non compete clause.

I believe United waived the non-compete clause out of LAX when we loaned them $70millliion.

I am not at SKW but I believe it has to do with being based out of a United hub and feeding someone else from that hub.

No not really. I don't care if its shiny or a 30 year old turbo prop like my first airline gig. I need to stay current and try to earn somewhat of a living. Skywest is my first choice because of their bases, but if they aren't hiring for the foreseeable future I need to work on plan B.
Don't care if its fast, slow, big, small or if its operated by tweedle dum airlines DBA up yours express!
If you are interested in fast, shiny jets, I recommend airliners.net, or you could hang out by the airport with a notebook and binoculars.
You might be lucky and get a glimpse of one of those bad ass E170's!

Well they went from Newark and Houston where they were flown all day every day, to Tucson for a vacation in the sun. Now they are hanging out in Denver and go out for a flight every now and then.
What a waste.
What a waste.

So potentially no new classes until late spring to after summer? So much for living on the west coast. I guess eagle is an option. Although a 2 year contract isn't appealing and don't know if you can commute from the southwest coast.
