Absolutely agree. Holding a line where you want to live is very valuable.

Out of interest, are there any guys nearing 65 years of age at SkyWest? Seems like the kind of place you would consider hanging your hat, especially with the unique bases they have on the West coast.
Only 37 age 65 retirements in the next five years. Less than a 150 in the next 10 years. Out of 3250 or so pilots. It's a very young pilot group.

Not completely true, there are some flights on the united side. Usually only one a day on certain days of the week but that changes month to month. Right now there is one on saturdays and thats it. Not something to rely on although my trips start on saturdays this month so I've been taking this flight for the higher priority.

There are TUS-DEN, however if that works

I'm the opposite. I live near Chicago and would love to sit reserve in base 10 minutes from the airport as opposed to a 4.5 hour commute each direction and buying hotel rooms a few days a week for a line on the Bro. I have a line on the Bro and I'm itching for a transition but there haven't been many transition classes for the last few months.

As you said though, QOL. People should go wherever they feel like they'd have the best QOL. For me I think that's reserve at ORD.

...............I'd be happy to work for Skywest at all.

Something about not hiring much, and when they do, slots being filled with the plentiful prior 121 guys. I know some CFIs still get in the door, but especially not when the door is all the way closed.

Which is exactly why many of us won't work here in five years.

Not that there's anything wrong with staying, by the way. It is a good company.

It is, but many have been burned thinking their base would be around for the long run. SAN, SBA, MRY, and SMF come to mind. I know at least a few people who passed on other opportunities because they wanted to stay in these bases.

LAX and SFO look pretty solid, but who knows if SkyWest will even be a UAX carrier in 10 or 15 years?

I should add: don't get me wrong. Of the current regional field, I believe SKYW, Inc. is the strongest player, and SkyWest airlines specifically has a bright future. That being said, never hurts to plan for the worst while hoping for the best.

Keep trying. In my own experience it doesn't seem like Skywest looks down upon CFIs like other regionals do. My new hire class had 12 CFIs all with no turbine time and all 12 of us passed everything first try. A lot of the captains I fly with say they were CFIs before being hired by Skywest.

They care a lot more about who you are and how you conduct yourself in the interview and how well you prepare for the interview.

I'll second that, I was a CFI hired strait into the jet last march. From my experience the biggest factors are getting the interview and knocking it out of the park. As far as I know only 3 out of the 15 of my interview group got hired (one being a rehire) and almost everyone except me had 121 experience.
