One of the Ca upgrades told me hiring for Emb and Erj will resume end of Feb or beginning of March.

Submitted airlineapps 02/2012. Received email with mandatory questions form 04/2012 (sent to those they plan to interview). Received phone call interview invite 06/2012 (they left message - I called back to set up date). This was followed by email of packet to complete for interview.
That was the pattern last spring/summer - who knows what it will be when they start interviewing again in March or later.

How long would it take new CRJ hire to be assigned LAX? What about Palm Springs?

You'd move up faster on the EMB, and the pay is the same first year.

If those bases are important to you, I'd really consider the Brasilia. You'll get those bases much quicker, and will have a better QOL sooner by getting off reserve.
Even though I was typed and flying a jet before SkyWest, I took the Brasilia for better seniority (it was the earliest class I could take). I never regretted it... It was fun to fly, the destinations (west coast) are fun, and I was only on reserve a couple of months. By the time I transitioned to the CRJ, I was able to hold a line in all but the most senior bases.
