SFO is senior on the RJ, but actually really junior on the Brasilia. SFO is more junior than FAT for Brasilia FOs right now. I'm a lineholder in SFO but would be on reserve in every other base except PSP.

How long on a reserve at SFO for RJ and Brasilia if one got hired now?
How about upgrade time?

Thanks

That is really interesting information for me as far as the EMB at SFO for new a hire. I am about 1:15 drive from SFO and 3:00 from FAT. If no reserve than SFO would be the ticket for sure but if reserve than a 2:00 call would be dicey seeing that if their is any traffic and coupled with parking I would be in the high risk category for not making it on time.

I am sure that I will have to do at least some reserve time and unfortunately am right on the back side of the line on making it on time to SFO. Hanging at Starbucks all day 5 days a week would be an alternative to renting a second place in a very high rent area. Although there could be a good deal on a crash pad up there somewhere.

Find a 24 hour fitness and a library (or Barnes & Noble). You'll get very fit and very smart before too long.

Look at the BART and CAL Train...could you make it to a station which could get you on a train right into the terminal? That might be more predictable than traffic.

Upgrade time company wide? Depends. If the regional business model and/or the economy collapse, then upgrade will be 10-20 years or never (seriously).

If the majors hire a bunch and SKW can stay in business and thrive upgrade should be 4-6 years (EMB, junior base).

If you're looking for upgrade in SFO, that will likely be a long time. SFO (and other high-cost areas) go junior for FO's because they can't afford to live there. CA's make more money, and their wives are probably making more than FO wives on average too so they are more likely to want to live in premium metro areas.

I was on reserve for 6 months on the Brasilia in FAT. SFO wasn't really a base on the bro until recently, but I would expect time on reserve to be similar to what it would be in FAT. If they run more RJ transition classes it will drop a bit. They didn't run transitions for a few months this summer.

The newest upgrades are 2007 hires on the Brasilia and 2006 hires on the RJ. Not many people were hired in 2008 or 2009 though. It's possible that upgrade times will drop. It is an airline though so it's also possible that upgrade times will rise.

There are some crash pads in SFO being advertised in the crew room right now around $200-250/month. Not a bad deal for SFO.

I've gotten a few two hour call outs, but usually it's more like a 3-4 hour call out, or they assign me something a day or two in advance. I've met people who live over an hour away on reserve, but it's definitely a risk. SFO and FAT are pretty junior on the bro so it's possible that you could hold long call reserve (12 hours) pretty fast. It only took me two months to get long call.
