Electra, MiLa and Paid2fly – thanks for the info.
If I don’t mess up the interview and they give me an offer, I am wondering if it is possible work a second non-flying job to keep up with the bills. If dropping trips is not easy, what about if you get senior on reserve? Would that be a way to be away from home less (assuming you live in base)? Do the senior people on reserve fly a lot?
Thanks,
Bob

Usually as a senior person on reserve you won't fly much if you don't want to, but it depends on the month and even the week. There have been times that I didn't fly all month, but one week ended up being the only person in my bucket. No matter how senior I am, if I'm the only person in my bucket I'm going to be called first.
It's probably possible to schedule a second job around that. You can watch the reserve buckets and assume that if there are 10 people ahead of you to get called you probably won't fly that day and you can go in for a second job. It would always be a risk though but plenty of people do it.
In October I flew 2 hours total on reserve even being senior on call first. In July I flew 74 hours without being on call first. Every month is a little different.

There is some flexability on reserve. I have had pretty good luck getting crew support to trade reserve days.
