1)It is sort of a PIA to commute to unless you're driving in.
2)It is a maintenance base, so a lot of early start/late finish stuff.
Feel free to PM me if you want anything more specific (like DOH for the most junior lineholder or something).

Personally I didn't really like COS as a base.
1) You leave early on day 1, and don't come back to or back through COS until your trip is over. Hence no ability to break up your trip or drop/trade part of it to improve your quality of life.
2) It is a small base. Everybody will know the color of all your laundry, so to speak, very quickly and that may or may not be a bother to you. Being a private person, while I made some very good friends in that base, I found the base "politics" with other pilots and particularly the flight attendants to be very annoying after a short while.
3) COS is a military town. COS has a very large population of evangelicals. I am not either one of those. Unless you want to go hiking every time you have free time, going to Denver is the best entertainment around.
Just my two cents. And maybe not even worth that. Good luck.

Those of you who are FO at SkyWest, how many years have you been there? How many more years before you upgrade?
#1444
4.5 years
- About 550 numbers from upgrade on the CRJ
- About 100 numbers on the Bro.
Time is all relative on how many classes and how big they are. If things stay as they are still prob more years away, could be more/less.

I think PIC time won't be a big factor. Places like United, Atlas, Virgin, JetBlue, US Airways ect... All don't require PIC time to apply. I think with upcoming retirements in 2-4yrs, you'll see an exodus of mid seniority level guys which will also drive down upgrade time. If you're hired today with OO, I'd say you're looking at 2-4yrs for upgrade depending on the airframe.

How is the CRJ fleet organized staffing wise? Is it all one pilot group and the pay is based on time in each type per pay period or are there separate 200, 700 and 900 pilots?

There's differences training in each which then qualifies you to fly all 3. The pay differential is shown on your paycheck ie 700/900 override ect... If your based IAH that's predominately a 700 base, SLC is a mix 900/700/200 as it is with many bases. ORD is mainly 200 but with some 700 flying thrown in for good measure.

You get a 700, 900 "over ride", to complicated to explain and the background behind it is a long story.. Lets just say as a Captain you get a extra $6-8 a hour when you fly the 700 or 900 on top of the 200 rate...

CRJ pilots are qualified on all three types. All pilots are considered 200 pilots for pay purposes for vacation, sick, training, etc.
700/900 pay slightly more through a "block hour overide" which applies only when you actually fly the 700/900. How much you actually fly the 700/900 depends on base (some have only 200's) and your seniority. A senior pilot in the right base (say SLC) could fly all 900 trips which in addition to paying more than 200's tend to be fewer, longer legs and generally easier days.
Sometimes people who usually fly 700/900's "downshift" to 200's during the holidays since their seniority is better on the 200. There are no "fences" between 200 and 700/900 flying...you can swap airplanes in the middle of a trip.

I just got the call for an interview. For those that are interested, I have about 6500tt w/ 4.5 years at TWA/AMR, 3 years at Horizon, 1 at Big Sky and I have been on furlough for the last 10. I currently work as a non-practicing attorney (time to get studying, hard). I signed up to airlineinterviews.com to start prepping for the interview but I had a couple of questions.
Does anyone have info on MSP? I would love to be based where I live and I am wondering about what reserve is like, is MSP had to get, what the trips are like (lots of turns or 2,3,4 day trips)?
Also, does Skywest offer DAL and UAL non-rev passes for the wife and kids? Are those days gone now?
Thanks,
Bob
PS - if anyone is interviewing on Nov. 13th let me know.
