No matter what approach you take, the only real fix for the PBS issues is more staffing (and lower monthly credit values).

Either get more staffing outright and a lot of the "trip replacements issues" will go away because we are not pushing PBS to the edge. Yes it would still do its globalization think and violate seniority every once and awhile but it will be the exception rather than the rule.

Or, get some of the ratios / rules you propose. The end result is still a need for more staffing.

I disagree.

There are different PBS systems that are set forth to honor seniority. AOS PBS is set to primarily to satisfy SkyWest scheduling and finance concerns. It is the way the program parameters have been set, SkyWest comes first, second, third and so on.

AOS PBS is a total garbage product for crew members, beyond how difficult it is to use. And most importantly it does not respect seniority at all.

SAPA needs to first set it's sights on a new PBS system and the historical credit BS.

The pilots need to set their sights on getting a union.

We are idiots if we think anything will change otherwise.

I am sure our PBS can also honor seniority. Just refer to the greedy algorithm What is Preferential Bidding System ? We just don't use it because it is less efficient than using the globalization approach.

Less efficient means ultimately more people to cover the same amount of flying (and with it more cost).

My point is that regardless of how you go about it, there is no good answer without improved staffing.

pBS is invaluable because it is forcing all the expensive senior guys to consider leaving if they can (many can't) and so is reducing the overhead costs. As attrition picks up over the holidays, the beatings will continue and Skywest will become even more undesirable a workplace. That's the implicit goal to keep the costs going down and get rid of senior guys as the shrinkage ramps up next year.

Well considering 1000 hour cfis have never flown anything faster than a 150 (in most cases)...id say their learning curve is a little steep.

Shrinkage huh? When I was hired I was second last in my class and I was 3353. Today the most junior pilot is 3811. But yeah...shrinking..

I am sure there must be a reason, and it is probably a good one, I was just curious, so asked.
Are you kidding?! You really think someone with 250 hours belongs in the cockpit of an airliner?! Would you put your kids on an airliner with 250 hour pilots? Good lord man, it wasn't all that long ago when someone with 250 hours was lucky to be allowed close enough to a $30 mil jet to fuel it. I'm glad SW has enough sense to see the folly in hiring somebody with basically no aviation experience into their airplanes. Get real.
