Your senority for the first year is only going to hold crap 4 days. Pick the base that has the least commute. A crap 4 day is not near as bad when you are driving home.

They'd rather deal with the terrible LA traffic, than pairings that are mostly minimum guarantee or credit half the duty time in PSP.

Thanks Fly,
Would this mean that most trips are more 4 days, or shorter day out day back stuff?
Aside from the lack of credit, is a base like PSP more accommodating for someone who lives in base or commutes in?

Anyone know if a DC9 type rating would work to get the signing bonus at SkyWest?

If your trip met or exceeded that 4:1 criteria on its own then it doesn't apply to you.
That's not exactly how it works. The only pairings subject to the guarantees - duty, premium, and trip - are the ones built for PBS. When the pairings are built in the month prior, the guarantees are applied if needed. And they only apply as to what was originally scheduled and not actually flown. Get in 6 hour late and none of the guarantees apply. Split up a trip (or even just dropping the last round trip) voids all of the guarantees as well. There's no look back whatsoever during the month by payroll.

And if you are on reserve, forget about it. Crew support builds your pairings and those aren't subject to the guarantees either. The only way that's not the case is if they assign you the original pairing with absolutely no changes to it.

The outstation bases (PSP,FAT, TUS, COS) typically have very early morning departures and very late arrivals at night. Most of the pairings either start real early or get off really late(or both). It would put you commuting in the day before, or going home the day after a lot of the time. Living in domicile would be fine if you don't mind 5am shows or 11pm releases.

Hub pairings on the other hand typically don't have as many early shows/late releases as the aircraft overnight at the outstations. They still have some flying like this, but the majority of the pairings will have mid morning-mid afternoon/evening show and release times. Much easier for commuting.

Get on SkyWestonline when you're eligible and you can look at all of the different domiciles pairings under the PBS page.

SLC had been rather hard to get into for along time but things are changing. The parings here are typically good, and definitely much better than MSP. It also has the lowest cost of living out of all of the domiciles.

DEN I hear has gone mostly 4 days. They're OK for awhile, but if you live in domicile you won't like them all of the time.

Someone else mentioned IAH shrinking as Mesa moves in there with their 175s. The 700s (and that's all that are down there) are coming off contract?

ORD has better pairings than MSP.
