FOs: Extends the honeymoon phase for a few years with artificially high QOL. About the time you get senior enough to upgrade, your FO seniority isn't really improving your life so might as well upgrade.

CAs: They need them to stick around for a while, but much after ten years they'd rather you move on and make way for upgrades to keep the new-hires (and not-yet-hires) happy.
I think it's more like people know when they are junior that they won't get what they ask for and therefore aren't as restrictive in their bids. As they get more senior they get more and more selective/ restrictive which ends up ruining their bids allowing good trips to go junior.

Bid 68% DEN RJ/CA, got 14 off with 86'ish credit. Not bad, as I even scored Turkey Day off for the first time in quite awhile. And thankfully the next day too for the likely required recovery period.

I've heard of a few that are leaving FAR 135's for Skywest and it seems all are winding up in ORD... is this by choice or are all new hires just going there because it's the bottom base?

I'm not super happy with my award but it's not PBS or my own fault I don't think. I like locals and the number of locals in my base was reduced significantly. I'm only senior enough to hold the min credit ones now. My line completed in layer 3 with all locals but I'm working far more days this month and last than I used to because of the drop in number of locals forcing me to get the lower paying ones I put in layer 3.

The pairing set was looked at many times and then when I was awarded those trips the removed them for coverage.

Hello, I'm curious about the roster system, do you fly night lines? Can you choose to fly only at night or is it how the scheduler gives to you?

Thanks for replies.

And that's the real problem. Garbage in-garbage out. One of the main reasons (I think) that we see the senior guys howling that PBS is screwing them is that they expect to see the same or better as their historical seniority has allowed them to hold. Five years ago, DEN had in excess of 225 locals on average for a given month. A few months ago, less than 50. If you expect to have to work about half the month, now there are more than 12 lines of locals fewer than before. The people who could only hold crummy locals before now have to go looking for standups or two days, which kicks down the more junior people who were holding two-days, etc, etc. When 85% of the pairings are 4-days, it doesn't matter if you used to hold XYZ, now you're probably holding 4-days.

Direct opposite for me. After I finally got off reserve (3.5 years) all I could hold on my line was 4 day pairings because I was so junior(80%). So I started being selective with my 4 day pairings because I would either be working 19 hour 4 days or 24 hour 4 days. But as my seniority has gained, we have lost our pairing diversity. Also, the company has realized they can just put the reserve level high enough to cover IROPS and then raise the minimum reserve level so nobody can drop anything. Before you could drop a turn that had a long sit or a day or two off your awarded trip if it came back to base. I haven't even considered upgrading because I was about to quit sitting reserve in base. Tripling my current pay wouldn't be worth signing up for reserve. Commuting to reserve would be the nail in the coffin for my career at SW.

I think it is more like Electra said. People are used to bidding and getting what they could hold before. Now that the required hours is creeping up the seniority list, it is making more and more people see the "replaced/not awarded" line in their reason report. They are not being restrictive per say, but they are not bidding like they will need 85+ hours for their bid to complete. Or they are not realizing it will take more days to get those hours with our lost efficiency.

Thanks for replies.
You bid on specific pairings or pairings (trips) that have similar characteristics (like start after 10am etc) if there are pairings that are all at night (like a stand up) and your seniority can hold it then you can get it. Most flying involve flying during the day.
