I think you misunderstood what the CA was telling you. Listen to Utah, his post is absolutely accurate.
For the last time, upgrade has nothing to do with the airframe you're on. Nothing. It is purely controlled by your company wide seniority number.
That said, I think we'll see a lot more movement on the CRJ. Your seniority in domicile (a whole different number than your company wide seniority number) should, in certain domiciles, improve faster on the CRJ. You will not upgrade quicker on the CRJ, but you have a better chance of achieving a better QOL faster. Again, this only applies to certain bases. As an example, my seniority number company wide has decreased by 350 since I was hired. But my domicile seniority has gotten worse over the past 5 months as guys more senior to me transfer in.
Listen to what we're telling you. It's the truth, I promise you.

Thanks for taking the time to write that up...
if you're hired a day after me on the 175, I'll STILL be able to upgrade before you EVEN INTO THE 175!
You're not understanding that this isn't mesa. You're not locked to that airframe forever.

Unless the company stops honoring seniority again when they upgrade someone on the erj before the person on the crj. Just get used to "that's how we have always done it".

The ORD 175 FO list is about a 150 long. #50 on in was hired less than 14 months ago. So 2/3rds of the list have been here less than a year. It's going to take a long time for anyone hired onto the bottom of that list to move up. (those hired into that seat 8-12 months ago got really lucky.) The additional UA 175s are going into DEN I think.
The ORD CRJ FO list is about 170 pilots. 40 of them could hold captain now. The next 40 are senior to a good portion of the 175 FOs there. The bottom 80-90 all have been hired in the past year or so as well.
For someone getting hired right now into ORD the CRJ should provide a little better movement. That assumes the CRJ/175 staffing stays the same. If we get more 175s and park CRJs...

10 years ago it was turbojet over turboprop, this year it's underwing over fuselage, next year it will be whatever the next gadget thing.
Reality, you will be flying a regional jet for 6-10 years(on average), I have seen EMB120 guys get hired over ERJ guys and CRJ guys hired in between. But since you have cracked the "code" keep on keepin on....
well, maybe the 175 won't get me to the majors as quick as I said, but I believe it helps. The lady I spoke with on the phone said that some RJs are going off line this year and many next year. So I figure, go to the 175 and take my chances. I've done my homework and with majors killing off the rj, why bother with it. Waste of time. Keeping your head in the sand won't help.
Looking forward to the Oct class.
