Another nice screw you that United hands us is a United employee that bumps us off our own metal using a vacation pass can rescind the vacation pass before getting on their own flight doesn't get tagged for using said vacation pass.
Meaning, as example, a main line United employee can use a vaca pass to get on a SkyWest plane from SLC to LAX to OGG, get on before a SkyWest employee and then cancel the flight to OGG, never gets charged for the vaca pass.
All in all, United bennies totally suck, and I bend over United flights any chance I have.

United vacation passes put them at SA0 priority on Skywest flights. That means they can bump you off of a Skywest flight by date of hire, and UAL date of hires are usually senior to ours. They also can put their entire family on SA0 priority by just using one single vacation pass. I've been bumped from a Skywest flight by a United pilots parents and 4 kids when the pilot wasn't traveling with them.
They also changed the travel program last year so that now our family members are below ALL United employees on Skywest flights unless they're traveling with you. My wife was trying to come out to meet me while I was on a trip and got bumped by about 15 United employees on our own flight. Had I listed with her she would have been #1.
United benefits are terrible compared to Delta, American and Alaska.

After reading all this information on non reving it seems as if it is next to impossible on United especially if it is including your family..
Are discounted guaranteed tickets an option so you don't have to be on standby and actually get onto the plane?

Case in point. My wife and I wanted to go to Hong Kong on UAL. Flight was wide open at 3 hours to departure, with more than 40 seats avail. At 1 hr to departure, all of a sudden 45 United vacation passes appeared out of thin air.
So we walked over to the Honolulu gate, only to have the exact same thing happen. I swear, there's something about mainline UAL employees that makes them wait until the very last second to list for a flight.
We almost gave up, but there was 1 seat left to Kona, HI. My wife got that. I got the jumpseat.
Coming back to the mainland was a whole other adventure that made me rue the day I ever decided to try non-reving on United.
So like I said, if you don't care where or when you go, United nonrev can work.
If you care where or when you go? Save yourself the heartache and get a job that pays an actual living wage so you can afford an actual ticket to go where you want, when you want....

They're d***s. No joke. I'm not sure if they think this form of "non-rev sniping" somehow gets them a better chance at getting on or what. However, it seriously screws everyone else. Same scenario happened to us trying to go ORD-YVR.
