That was other great thing he was telling me about management thinks the pilot shortage is only going to last two maybe three years. And then it will be easy to get pilots again.
I just flew with a captain involved in training/ management. The last two months have been 80-90 new hires a month spread over both the crj and erj. Management wants 100 a month but cannot afford less than 40 a month to cover attrition. Skywest is trying to expand on the ERJ side but they don't want to commit to a large number of airframes until they have the pilots for the next few years. He says they are planning on hiring indefinitely and training indefinitely.

Per my contact at ALPA national age 67 is in the immediate future, which will only kick the can down the road for a couple of more years.
Remember the pilot shortage was indirectly engineered by the very people who have the solution to the problem at their disposal.

The reason SKYW is hiring at these rates is to be able to pick up the slack when Republic chains the doors shut, but don't fret, SKYW will let you guys interview for F/O positions at the bottom of the list.

My question is coming from a company who has failed to adapt to 117 changes and the dwindling supply of pilots, as well as increased attrition from its own ranks, does this surprise anyone??

Oh ok. I was given the CRJ, but strongly prefer the ERJ for many reasons. It would be nice if i could switch. How was the CTP course? Did you do it in Atlanta or Houston
