I hand fly with the FD up frequently . Many of the approaches we do on the EMB120 in the California system cannot use an autopilot or for whatever reason the autopilot doesn't follow the g/s very well. I always have the directors up as an extra level of automation- especially when doing MRY to mins (approach notes prohibit MRY from being coupled).

I’m not sure why everyone is going crazy about hand flying the ILS to mins. I’ve been flying the Brozilla for about 2 years now and most of the places I’ve flown into the ILS is so screwy you HAVE to hand fly. Maybe it’s different for the jet but I know the Bro has to be hand flown alot. I’m not saying I’m flying raw data to mins but hand flying happens quite a bit and I’ve flown the Bro all over the country including the Caribbean.

Ive been flying for FedEx the last 6 years, so no thanks.
Out out of 5, 2 were regionals (including skyw), one LCC that went ch 7, one legacy major that doesn't exist anymore, and finally fedex.
And I'll stand by my statement. NO one did what this guy was talking about except at Lakes. If you did that at FedEx, the other guy (or 2 or 3 guys) would have a serious **** fit.

Oh I’m sorry for not being politically correct. I have flown the Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia. From now on whenever I post anything on this forum I will refrain from using any language that may be taken as not being serious. Oh yeah just call me Joe Cool cause I fly an Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia for SkyWest Airlines Inc. Oh and by the way SkyWest Airlines Inc doesn’t fly the Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia all over the country nor in the Caribbean. So it’s not just an “I’m a cool hip SkyWest pilot”. I kind of figured you were a Bombardier Canadair Regional Jet pilot (sorry you didn’t provide me with what type so my aircraft name is incomplete) no sense of humor. It’s seriously this type of attitude that makes this profession not very attractive anymore. Lighten up and enjoy being a pilot again!!
