I've never meet met the COO but I think he is a good guy. He can write a heck of a motivational letter. The problem is that the situation makes no sense for them to be pushing so hard for us to take a pay *raise* followed by an "or else" we will lose flying. ???
The idea that skywest wouldn't be interested in the 18 175s if the pilots got proper raise is crazy.

I'm guessing you're not a commuter. Hate agents are the bane of my existence. Not at all surprised at all of this story. And while many old school and many not so old are stalwarts of pilot rights, I'm sad to say in my 14 years of commuting I have seen countless captains get rolled by gate agents. Some guys just weren't born with a pair.

All these messages and scare tactics do is make me more confident that the No vote is the right one. No doubt in my mind that they need the first year pay increase, and I want to vote an increase in for them. But you could pay a pretty significant signing bonus for ALL pilots with half of what one executive bonus was. Hopefully a second No vote will show them we understood the first pay package just fine. We need more than some empty promises about minimum reserve staffing to get this deal done.
Please god let this message sink in to everyone hired after 2008. In 2004 we wouldn't get any 700's unless we voted to fly them at 200 rates only to see them on property the very next day anyway. Then we wouldn't get anymore if we didn't accept BHO. Then it was the 175's at a "blended" rate which happened to blend right into 700 pay for a 900 capacity plane. Not to mention the Bro bait and switch. Wake up people.

They have to raise new hire pay anyway. Don't be like the flight attendants and give it all away for a free coat! We deserve and can get more.

Apparently the only reason we didn't bid on the Q-400 flying was because SAPA wanted 700 rates instead of 200. It had nothing to do with maintenance costs or the fact that Republic can't get rid of them fast enough. I can't believe the level of gullibility and Stockholm syndrome this pilot group displays. You really expect me to believe we turned down flying over a couple dollars to the pilots??

And one SAPA rep all but admitted that he voted to change the voting rules because he doesn't feel comfortable with the new hire rate of $20 and that senior pilots sell out the first year pilots. When that mindset is 1/19 of our representation, we have already lost. Maybe I can use my raise to buy a coat that matches the FA's.

That's what I think is so funny. We have been running minimal staffing here for the past 2 years. I can't remember the last time we had enough reserves to drop anything, let alone get less than 90 hours awarded each month. But if we pass this package and they have to pay the new hires 25% more, that means we are all of a sudden going to hire like crazy?? We don't have a problem filling classes and we just want to raise the pay out of the goodness of our heart?

Please realize the management double talk and that they do not have our best interests in mind. And let's not forget the 401k promise isn't guaranteed. Either they have been lying to us for years by telling us that we couldn't be seperated from the other employee groups, or they are lying to us now by saying we can. Either way, they have lied to us.

All the people that are screaming no from the rooftops are senior people that won't be affected by a downsizing of the airline, they are most likely captains already and won't be downgraded. They don't care about FOs on first year pay or that new flying can lead to more upgrades and career progression, they'd wager anything for another dollar a hour. You can clearly see in the info packet Skywest is quite a bit more expensive than other operators, compass etc are a much junior pilot group. Now I know some senior as dirt people will say downsize if you must to give us more pay, but there are people below you that are actually affected by that and that do want to leave Skywest. IF You want really pay go to mainline, if you aren't going to mainline because of your QOL you are trading in pay for that. The regional business model as a contractor is based on cost and if we cost too much we downsize and become Comair, Expressjet etc etc. Wake up people, our hourly rates are competitive, if you want QOL improvements such as more reserve (ability to drop trips, get vacation etc) then you need new hires.

If you vote no at least tell your reps what you want to see improved, think QOL over hourly because our hourly isn't going to change.

If you want the raise management got by all means try get into management, I'm sure there's a director of director titles opening or something to that effect posted

***? Where on earth does it say this? I have never once been forced to sit up there and would refuse if asked.

soakingpilot, you really need to pick up the PPM and read some of the rules. I am displaced 110% of the time I have a trip with a check airmen (standups excluded). Yes you are pay protected for the trip.
