I got the eBag because everyone else had one so I thought it had to be fine. It is fine, but I'd like better if it was bigger. I'm getting a bigger bag next time.

Well the airside chart contract is said to expire in September, and that would be the timing for switching to paperless. I just came from the school house where some instructors already have the surface beta testing it. So it's not like I just heard it from some random guy...

They have been in the validation phase for almost a year now. There will be no period here where we have the ship sets and efb's. Once the efb is active the jepps are gone.

the clips were there to stabilize the bag on the hook so they don't swing from side to side.

This might be a stupid question, but... I start ground soon and was wondering if I should bring some sort of bag or briefcase to carry study materials. Do most guys have a backpack, messenger bag or something similar to carry books, or will I be ok without one?

A backpack would work out well. There are one or two heavy-ish binders to lug around, plus your own notebook/laptop for note taking.

Are they still doing double occupancy or do you get your own room?

Double. Unless you want to pay $900 or whatever it is.
