Skywest
Hi guys, I'm getting out of the military and looking to apply to skywest and I was hoping you could help me out by answering a few questions. I live in San Diego and I've got two kids, so getting based out of LAX is a huge deal for me. As a new hire, how hard is it to get based out of LA, and how senior a base is it? Do they have a lot of reserve in LA or would I just be flying? Last, as a skywest pilot, do you operate for United, Delta and Alaska, or just one of them, and if it's just one of them, do you get any say on which one? Thanks in advance for any info. Reading these threads has been really helpful.

I wouldn't count on lax shrinking. The Eagle flying will most likely get replaced with something. Out of LAX you will fly for both Delta and United and you won't have any say over which one.

Thanks for all the great info. How senior a base is PHX? Is there a lot of reserve there or is it mostly trips?

Lol. Are you by chance on first year pay. It took 3 months from the last vote to get this one done. Company is anxious to raise first year pay. I'm not sure which way I'm voting yet, but I'm not worried about getting stuck with the current deal. It's heading the right direction, but I think we can do better.
I'm glad the first one was rejected. It gave us a chance to fix a lot of stuff. But NO deal is going to be perfect. Waiting for the perfect deal is like waiting for the perfect wave. It's much more fun to surf on the good waves while you are waiting.
Sometimes a "better" deal comes along quickly..... and sometimes it doesn't. I'm not so sure a round three deal would come along quickly enough to make up for months (or years) of lost pay, work rules, profit sharing, per diem.
Lots of guys were ****ed last time and voted NO just to vent some frustration with schedules and and general stagnation at the regionals. I expect that a majority of our pilots will pragmatically look at the benefits of this deal and vote yes this time around.

Nope, not a first year guy and, like you, I can definitely live with current rules and pay (not too shabby for a regional). I just want to point out that sometimes we let ourselves become uninformed voters, or one issue voters, or emotional voters (vote no because Crew Support turned down our last vacation request), and we end up turning down a good deal when it stares us in the face.

Lot of guys voted NO because it was such a lousy offer. The latest offer would still cause us to fall behind the inflation rate every year(not even considering last year we got nothing, along with the lack of any retro pay)!

I think you're right, it will probably pass this time. My vote will be no, as it doesn't hit the minimum marks I need that show SkyWest even cares.
It seems that the company wants this real bad and to move on to get further contracts and fresh meat in the front door, those words in essence being told to sim instructors at a private dinner with MT and TG.
So, it comes as no big surprise that we are completely throwing away a chance to capitalize on this opportunity for a better TA.
What would have been ideal, would have been for SAPA to stop the process from moving forward. Sadly the majority of the reps, the entire executive board, and the company are going to vigorously sell this pile of, somewhat sweetened, dog droppings. The chief pilots and the sim instructors are getting a list of talking points so they can help push this package.
Why? Why does the company want this so bad? Why can't we use this opportunity to get more?
Is should probably start drinking.....

Haven't had a problem yet. In fact, I'd say there's more crews available for the new planes than the old ones.
