The US often seems short sighted about real economics. A 400sm trip in a ERJ145 works out to seat miles /lb of fuel to 7.65, (2600 lbs fuel) whereas a ATR-72 is 14.93 (1850 lbs) The ERJ is faster, but if it is a 300sm trip, it's not significant. ( The Q400 turns in 10.27) The ATR and Q400 is arguably much more comfortable, and quieter too. Good economics would dictate big turbo-props for 300nm or so trips, then E170/190's or 319/737's for good sized markets beyond 300nm.
But prop planes are "scary".

Yeah, it's definitely not the widebody of RJs.
I was only referring to payload capabilities (less weight restrictions) compared with the 200. I would think that that would weigh higher in mainline's priority.
Having never flown on a ERJ I've no comparison, but the CRJ200 is a miserable ride in the back. The CRJ 700 / 900 are no great rides either for pax, but they are much better than the 200.
If you have not read the 10K report, you should. Specifically, look at the number of airframes being discarded and contract expirations. Look at the net revenue disparity between the sister companies.
I'm not poking the bear. I'm just looking at the numbers.

Inc wants unprofitable (or least profitable) aircraft gone. That is solely based on the CPAs they negotiated and compensation cost at each respective airline. Obviously xjt loses on both fronts so that's why they are getting parked (transferred).
Finally, we agree. Send all flying to mainline!
And margins are so slim that running the APU can quite literally be the difference between profit or no profit on that leg. We are talking per-flight profit measured in double-digit dollars, ie < $100.
Reason being...lifers care about the long-term viability of the company.

You are specifically speaking of pro-rate flying, right?

Don't know much about the plane, probably never will, but it's no parade for flight over an hour because you're sore for a day.

Those seats are standard on united regionals, that's how they got that extra row in on the 700
