Why do you think United cares about any of these factors? Between the ERJ and CRJ United will take whichever one costs them less money.

More and more competition by LCCs especially, frontier and spirit alone have added bases in Chicago and expression by others, it's just the beginning and will spread throughout country, they are actually going to have to earn their routes

If you have not read the 10K report, you should. Specifically, look at the number of airframes being discarded and contract expirations. Look at the net revenue disparity between the sister companies.

I'm not poking the bear. I'm just looking at the numbers.

The fleet count is based on contracts expiring. It does not mean that will park them. Inc wants the 145's gone and that is no secret. The 200's will be around for years.

The environmental system of the 145 is great for the summer. It does feel tight though.

I don't really care as long as the jack wagon up front doesn't blast me with hot air because it is chilly outside and FA in the door is cold.

I'd have to agree with you...outside of PHX.

Do you really think Spirit is going to start flying to Muskegon, Fort Wayne, Green Bay, or Lincoln?

Comparing the passenger comfort of a CRJ and an ERJ is completely inane. Neither of them are comfortable.

UAL wants 50 seaters gone. Quite honestly though the only top performers and airlines who can ACTUALLY staff flying is SKYW and XJT. everyone else is canceling for crews or telling the mainline carriers no thanks for more summer flying. Im okay with getting 50 seaters out of here as long as they are replaced by more flying in a bigger jet for MORE MONEY [felt that was necessary for all caps]. if not, park all regionals and give me and my work colleagues a mainline number.

I thought the ERJ 175 was very comfortable and I like the 2x2 configuration with no middle seat. It is more comfortable than a 737 that's for sure.

No I don't but regionals fly to more than just middle of nowhere. Expressjet does Clt to Iah in a 145...sure there are numerous cases where long flights are being done on small aircraft and I believe mainline is noticing that people might pay slightly more, not a lot, but slightly more to fly more comfortably or a lot more just to have wifi on the aircraft for 2 hours so business travelers, the most lucrative segment, can maintain productivity whilst airborne. 50 seaters have their place, one hour flight time or so.

The US often seems short sighted about real economics. A 400sm trip in a ERJ145 works out to seat miles /lb of fuel to 7.65, (2600 lbs fuel) whereas a ATR-72 is 14.93 (1850 lbs) The ERJ is faster, but if it is a 300sm trip, it's not significant. ( The Q400 turns in 10.27) The ATR and Q400 is arguably much more comfortable, and quieter too. Good economics would dictate big turbo-props for 300nm or so trips, then E170/190's or 319/737's for good sized markets beyond 300nm.
But prop planes are "scary".
