Default Skywest?

I know that Skywest flies for United Express, Delta Connection, and Continental Connection. So my question is, when a pilot gets hired, do they get to pick which express airline they want to fly for or can they fly for every one? I.E. just fly United or Delta routes or could a pilot take-off on a United flight, land in LAX then jump to Delta and head to SLC? I know it sounds stupid but i've always wondered this.

Thank you in advance!

When any carrier hires you, you bid on position, equipment and crew base in a preferential order. The actual carrier you are feeding for (ie. United, Delta, American, etc...) really doesn't matter. Usually, the crew base determines which carrier you are feeding for, but not always.

You'll wear a specific uniform from the company that hired you (ie. Skywest) and fly one aircraft type, regardless of which airline that feeds for. That means that you may fly two legs, feeding for different companies, but your are stil flying for your company. Many times the flight itself has multiple flight numbers (for passengers) depending on through which airline the passenger bought a ticket through. All in all, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

What is nice is that you usually have nonrevenue flying privileges on ALL the airlines your company feeds for, even if you do not fly those routes yourself.

When you submit a bid as a new hire, make sure your bid reflects the equipment, base and positions you prefer- NOT which airline it feeds for.

Hope this helps.

So if i wanted a CRJ in DEN or COS i would be flying under United colors but i would still be part of Skywest...i get that part. So if i flew on a United scheme to LAX i could then jump ship to a Delta scheme in LAX and head towards SLC? I guess to clarify a little...in a 3 day duty time, i could fly under multiple airline schemes?

Thank you in advance!

If you fly for Skywest - you are hired by them - you will wear a Skywest uniform. You will fly Skywest airplanes. You will get paid by Skywest.

I used to work for United at JAX. All of United's flights into and out of JAX are operated by Air Wisconsin. So, Air Wisconsin pilots would come in and get on their Air Wisconsin CRJ's (that say Air Wisconsin on the front and have a great big blue and white "U" on the back for United). It's not that the pilot's are flying for United, they fly for Air Wisconsin - Air Wisconsin flies for United in JAX.

I think that you may be making it more complicated than it is. Just apply where you want to go, they'll tell you what airline they're flying for that day.

I already understand that its Skywest and not United..hence why i was saying "scheme" as in paint schemes. I know its Skywest planes and pilots...i dont think im being clear enough. I know that no matter if its United or Delta colors it is still Skywest. All i want to know is if you can/will fly CRJ's with different paint schemes. BTW I am only 17 so i have a ways to go unitl i could even begin thinking applying .

Yes, SkyWest CRJ pilots fly both "schemed" airplanes. It could happen in the same trip. I've even flown both in the same day.

Did you really just say "Skywest mainline?" When did Skywest become mainline?
