I have been left at the gate on an oo 175 by a bitter CA who was mad I left the chosen company before him. I recall burning down gas in IAH to get a guy home to St. Louis in the deuce.

I had a skywest newb in uniform look at me in full widget regalia and ask if I work for United. LoL.

the old culture is dead. The family atmosphere didn’t survive covid, and I would argue it was on life support in 17.

I would gladly leave you behind again

I said the story checks out, but I told the gate agent I want my OO pilot in my jumpseat now, she said I already close the flight, we’ll open it up again, she said couldn’t do it, I said well, we are just going to sit here all day long….. she magically put my OO on my plane jumpseat. The ual dude was ****ed 😡 and said, sorry dude we only have problems with ual side…. He said was going to report it to my company, told him he has the right to do so…. We took off from SFO to SLC and got my OO guy home… it’s been a while and I hadn’t heard anything yet..

so ual side use the dirty trick on vacation pass and early jumpseat awards and ignore the OO..

I always check with gate agents and other OO jumpseaters, been doing the walk every day.
United has been pulling that crap for decades. I knew a couple UAL commuters out of the same station as me that were trying to use the "you have to go by what the computer says" to the gate agents in '10 after the Continental merger when we'd all gotten emails saying the computers were using the wrong jump seat priority on express carriers. I will forever be grateful to captains that took the time to check up top before taking the gate agents word about everybody being cleared appropriately. Sounds like those days may be disappearing.

As a senior OO captain at a non-UA base, I can confirm this only seems to be a UA issue. I have yet to see a jumpseat discrepancy in a DL base. I still do the walk anyway.

Just a reminder if you listed for the jump and then the gate gives you a seat you still need to check in with the CA. Not only is it the right thing to do but If you don't it leads to questions and confusion when the final numbers come in and it shows ACM in the actual. Now the crew has to call ops who calls the gate and then the crew has to call back to the FAs asking if there's a jump and where they're sitting before correcting the W&B manifest.

How bad are the new weights? Did Americans gain 30 pounds and stuff 50 pounds of junk into their bags?

I'm not understanding this post.

-You have to list to get on,either in the back or via jump, so I don't see how this is possible.
-They can list for the front or back at their discretion. Pros and cons to both, and many people choose one strategically and intentionally. Priority and seniority rules. That's it.

It's not a jumpseater's responsibility to ensure other jumps get on board or are cleared appropriately. Hell, anytime I try to go introduce myself to "the jump" it ends up being someone totally NOT who I thought, like a deadheader in the back who then stares at me awkwardly lol

You summed it all up perfectly.

Lots of great points being made in this thread. Also thankful for the CAs that are making the walk to take care of jumpseaters and also setting the example for us to follow.

Agreed!
Flight 5333, SYR-ORD 6/25. CRJ 200. Thank you Capt.J who made the walk, ran the numbers, and made sure I got on!

This goes both ways. I’ve seen entitled, arrogant, less than tactful, mainly out of ignorance, RJ pilots on the JS. I’ve seen entitled, arrogant, jacka$$ mainline pilots as well.
So, no matter if you’re JS on a RJ or mainline, please realize that you’re a guest in someone else’s flight deck.
