Then they spent about 30 min teaching us the that we have nonrev benefits with 4 different carriers each with their own fee and log in system to search and list. Then you need to figure out MyIDTravel and ID90 as well. The only thing regarding jumpseating is that it is a privelege and ask the captain of the plane you want to jump on politely and be ready to show your credentials.

My solution to the vacation passes is to make them actually for vacation. Require them be activated 24 hours in advance (most people know they are going on vacation at least 24 hours in advance). If you need to use vacation passes to commute that was not the original intention and they shouldn't be permitted for it. It would also fix the arguments mainline nonrevs get into when the senior mama flight attendent trying to get back from europe tries to use seniority to bump the poor brand new gate agent that wants to burn her vacation pass to get the last of the polaris seat as well.

Maybe you should add positive space commuting to the things you MEC needs to get in this negotiation. Skywest had some positive space commuting during covid and it helped me out several times.

Personally I think think if you are commuting into work and its provable that you are commuting there should be a listing code that goes to trump all the non-revs (including those on vacation passes) and puts the commuters below the positive space people but above any non-rev. I don't think that is needed for getting home, but something could be better than the current system.

My new airline has the best policy for the jumpseat. On our metal you list greater than 24 hours and you are one of the top 2 listed determined by seniority- that seat is yours. No getting bumped last minute by a senior guy. If its at 24 hours and I see two senior guys above me listed- I have plenty of time to figure out plan B.

This all might be a mute point anyways because UA mainline is going to have so many narrowbodies that there won't be many places skywest will be the only show in town any more.

Did you really just say this?

Yea, passive aggressive. You know, showing that you are p*ssed off about having jumpseat issues under the guise of "hey so what is going on with this..."

So a wet behind the ears pilot should be able to bump a 30 year seniority employee going vacation, because they choose to commute?

Man, everthing OP complained about is the same exact stuff on united mainline. I live in a united base and commute to another united base and it's always a circus act trying to get to work, especially the last few weeks. I plan on atleast a 2 leg trip, and even then have been screwed multiple times by mainline employees listing last minute. flying on OO metal is usually the only thing that is a sure bet but have been burned by listing early only to be booted by a vacation pass. Atleast the united app is great for booking non-rev stuff...looking at you delta.

What do you mean by this? How do you book non-rev on the united app? I thought you had to list at the gate for united jumpseats. Is it not the same for flights?

We can list for United jumpseats or regular non-rev on the United app or online.

Is this for any pilot with cass or just united or skywest pilots? Where would I see this option on the app or online? I don't fly for united or skywest but another regional that doesn't fly for any of the legacies.

Only United pilots and those regional carriers that have direct travel benefits with UA, such as SkyWest.

Culture?

its gone. Mandatory upgrades. Old bitter CAs?

I have been left at the gate on an oo 175 by a bitter CA who was mad I left the chosen company before him. I recall burning down gas in IAH to get a guy home to St. Louis in the deuce.

I had a skywest newb in uniform look at me in full widget regalia and ask if I work for United. LoL.

the old culture is dead. The family atmosphere didn’t survive covid, and I would argue it was on life support in 17.

If you are mainline United you are probably part of the problem. If not- it's united mainline that is the problem. United nonrevs will change to vacation pass at last minute and bump any skywest people out on our own metal. So we defaulted to not listing until 30 min prior on any of our own united express metal. That way it's after the cutoff to change to vacation passes for mainline- they still try to do it anyways and an argument happens with the gate agent. Skywest lists for the jumpseat the same way. Sorry if it inconveniences you- but if it's united you really can only blame the united nonrevs.

If it's on other branded metal for skywest- I agree that common courtesy would dictate listing for the jumpseat as early as possible so everyone could see

I would always appreciate when I was jumping on mainline if I could see that two pilots were listed and I could make other plans

United gate agents - especially at hubs - always have to be reminded about priority because they are trained to put their own people on first. Several times in Denver and SFO I had to explain to the gate agent about jumpseat priority.

it happened to me in SFO, ual pilot introduced to the cockpit that he was getting the jumpseat early by the gate agent, so I went up to the gate agent and one of OO came to mee said I listed 1 hour early but the gate agent already gave the jumpseat to the ual. I said the story checks out, but I told the gate agent I want my OO pilot in my jumpseat now, she said I already close the flight, we’ll open it up again, she said couldn’t do it, I said well, we are just going to sit here all day long….. she magically put my OO on my plane jumpseat. The ual dude was ****ed 😡 and said, sorry dude we only have problems with ual side…. He said was going to report it to my company, told him he has the right to do so…. We took off from SFO to SLC and got my OO guy home… it’s been a while and I hadn’t heard anything yet..

so ual side use the dirty trick on vacation pass and early jumpseat awards and ignore the OO..

I always check with gate agents and other OO jumpseaters, been doing the walk every day.
