Oh man I'm sorry. With all the forced upgrades happening, you'll likely get a lot more flying pretty soon, as we won't be fat on FOs anymore. Or so the theory goes.

Look at it this way. You can spend all that crashpad time polishing up your apps. Do anything and everything humanly possible to get out as soon as you can. This is coming from someone who has never been your typical doom-and-gloom, naysayer kinda guy. I've never been a Kool-Aid drinker either, but on the line these days, all anyone can talk about is "Man...the company's getting real desperate." I'd pop the ejection handle as soon as you can, if that's an option.

That is a risky assumption to make. Turnover won’t help your relative in base seniority unless a lot of DECs come in below you or the FOs below you get 1,000 part 121 hours and start upgrading.

True, Ravenwing. We shall see. One can rarely plan well in this industry. One can only decide if the perceived worst-case scenario is acceptable.

Seeing as how there are not lines as there used to be in the old days, and since we here on the forum don't know how many pilots live in base versus commute, like to sit reserve at home or don't like reserve, one never knows what kind of schedule one might get. It all depends on the desirability of the seat and the base. For me, it doesn't matter, as I live in base and would be happy with pretty much any kind of schedule.

That is a good attitude to have.

I was assuming that as long as captains are in short supply, being sent on out of base reserve assignments, and being used, reserve would be an unpopular choice, unless someone chose reserve to get a holiday or something off. If you could sit at home on reserve most of the time, reserve would go more senior. Maybe things will change with all the forced upgrades, assuming most of them succeed and stay, but I suspect as long as the company awards upgrades where pilots want to be, there will continue to be many out of base reserve assignments to less popular bases. But I, too, am speculating.
