I’m sure you have some senior FO’s or CA transitions not wanting to go through multiple upgrade PRIA events when being hired by a major no longer requires Turbine PIC.
A heck of a lot easier to get your apps out then go through the hell of upgrade training. I don’t blame them. You have a bad day or an instructor decides they’re having a bad…

Turbine PIC or a degree may no longer be required, but they’re still preferred, and there is no guarantee that your name will be drawn for an interview. Upgrading shows initiative, provides PIC time, the experience gained from being in the left seat now better prepares you for future positions, and the pay is better while you wait. Being worried about exposure to the training department is overcome by being extremely well prepared for every event.
Training should not be a fear driven event for anyone.

This class is either an outlier or your coworker is misinformed. Depending on whether it's the short course or long course will make a difference as well. We are still doing 2-3 short course upgrade classes a month at 40+ per class on each fleet.

This is all true. However I have heard there are some alleged bad apples coming over from the CRJ side to the ERJ training department lately that are earning quite the reputation and putting off FOs from risking upgrade issues, heard some pretty unpleasant stories directly about it. I guess this is why TT sent the email about improving the training experience.

I agree with what everyone is saying with the upgrade. It’s not easy you have to put in the work big time. But the erj department has changed and brought over some notorious names. We had two pilots in our upgrade class who got busted on their Checkride. Both had a well known name from the CRJ training department, not the “Terminator”. Sadly you have sim check airman out for blood still. You can come up with excuses, but if the only 2 pilots in class who didn’t make it through unscathed had the same guy…
I really came here to say congratulations to 139 Captains who departed SkyWest this month! It’s the last Gone List I’ll be able look at myself! Hell of a run! The GPI is working its magic guys! TFAYD
Here’s some napkin math for you all. The last two months to start the year we’ve lost an average of 140 Captains. 140 CA X 12 months is 1,680 Captain departures in a year.

I can’t remember where those pilots went after procedures tbh, why do you ask?
I went through not long ago, but the class size was small. I think 17 in our class to be exact. It was also the short course with only 2 loft sessions, so that probably didn’t help. I’ve heard the recent upgrade classes have been 40 deep so it will be more difficult to keep track of who struggled, more importantly who they struggled with.

Can confirm, this new class is an outlier. The class of 60+ was split into 2 groups - one group has the captains (I believe they are all CRJ FO > ERJ Capt transitions) and the other is all FO new hires. There was also a short course Capt upgrade class that finished ground about a week or so ago (maybe 30 Captains).
