Airlines are doing what we can to try to avoid furloughs right now. It's anyone's guess when demand might rise enough where anyone is hiring. Commutair might be. But, right now there are a lot of current and qualified airline pilots on the street whose resumes will be much more attractive than a 1500 hour non-military pilot.
Edit: I have no idea how being a cadet will affect when you might get hired once we do start hiring again. You can try reaching out to a recruiter who might be able to answer that question. I wouldn't count on anything happening very soon, though.

No possible way that’s going to happen unless you do like 5 hours a month.
VTO/CPTO would have to be cancelled entirely, everyone in the training pipeline pushed through, then (maybe) everyone who had class dates given new dates, then finally maybe cadets then general applicants.
Of course all this assumes Skywest doesn’t increase hiring mins like Mesa and Commutair have to ATP only.

Please tell me you're trolling. I had my class date canceled about 48 hours before starting CTP, and know people who were sent home from training. I call sending trainees home a furlough, but Chip will never admit it. I haven't heard a single thing from Skywest since March. I know they're not hiring for probably at least a year, but it really sucks to be left in the dark. To hear you whining while still safely in your time building gig irks me. I guess I'm jealous as I left my last job voluntarily to start at OO, and now they don't need me back at the old job. Wasn't eligible for unemployment. Before your class they will need to bring back everyone sent home, then (hopefully) those with cancelled class dates. And then probably a few hundred who were ahead of you in the pipeline, anyone furloughed from a "jets for jobs" mainline.... Then you. If they decide not to flush the pool and hire xjt and compass folks with ATPs and experience

Cadet here. Had a CTP and E175 class date scheduled to start in August. Last I heard from my recruiter was in late March, said everything is now "not happening" until further notice. I emailed him early this week to find out any status updates. No response yet, but the email didn't bounce back, so I think there is still a recruiting department.
I don't plan on any hiring for at least a year- part of me thinks at least two or three. Not sure what my status is, but if I get hired I hope they will honor my 4/2019 date for benefits and company seniority.
This is a career change for me (at age 35) and I planned everything out to be hired at R-ATP minimums. Once contracts, pay, upgrades, expected legacy hire year can be figured out again I will run the numbers to see what makes sense.
I don't know if it will make sense to invest more of my time teaching to gain hours to get make myself more desirable. Especially without a full atp or type rating I am not very desirable, even with the cadet program, when compared to out of work guys.
I plan to ride this out in my current career, paying my student loans for flight training off slowly but surely (at least I locked in low interest rates) but my timing could only be worse if I was 4 months faster and sent home from training.
Have any cadets heard anything? Recruiting is still posting "feel good" posts on social media so someone could give us all an update and say- "hold for 12 months, expect further clearance in 3rd quarter 2021" or something.
