I don't plan on any hiring for at least a year- part of me thinks at least two or three. Not sure what my status is, but if I get hired I hope they will honor my 4/2019 date for benefits and company seniority.

This is a career change for me (at age 35) and I planned everything out to be hired at R-ATP minimums. Once contracts, pay, upgrades, expected legacy hire year can be figured out again I will run the numbers to see what makes sense.

I don't know if it will make sense to invest more of my time teaching to gain hours to get make myself more desirable. Especially without a full atp or type rating I am not very desirable, even with the cadet program, when compared to out of work guys.

I plan to ride this out in my current career, paying my student loans for flight training off slowly but surely (at least I locked in low interest rates) but my timing could only be worse if I was 4 months faster and sent home from training.

Have any cadets heard anything? Recruiting is still posting "feel good" posts on social media so someone could give us all an update and say- "hold for 12 months, expect further clearance in 3rd quarter 2021" or something.
I had a July class date. I have not received any updates and I expect that’s because nobody really has any meaningful information to share. I agree though, an email simply stating “no updates for now but your still in the pool” would be reassuring. I’m planning a couple years...hoping to hold our class seniority but would not be surprised if we eventually must reinterview. That would be a worst case scenario but best to hope for the best and plan for the worst.

As for the OP, you must not be paying much attention.

Unfortunately you don’t have any seniority or longevity as you were never actually hired and on property.

We have had this discussion in the past. As a cadet it was advertised that our orientation day would start company seniority. Not pilot seniority. But it would count for 401k match rates, health insurance on day 1, etc. If skywest wants to pull it I guess nothing is stopping them. It would be nice to keep something through. It doesn't cost them much.

And some of us already here for the past several years were recently flushed out of pools at our dream jobs at the majors. Not to sound unsympathetic but there is no monopoly on the suck at present - most every pilot is taking it on the chin one way or another. It's good you realize the importance of perseverance and managing expectations.

not a cadet with Skywest, but I am with PSA. An email was sent out to all of our cadets saying that hiring is postponed through all of 2021. So, maybe its going to be similar for skywest, i dont know

I don’t think you will hear much until March. (When summer block hours are starting to show up from our partners) and when our part time, covid paid/non paid programs expire, of get extended again... Hang in there!!!

I would never bank on an expected legacy hire date. Plenty of good people with solid resumes never get the call. Thinking you will be at a legacy 3 years (just an example, but not going to happen post COVID) after starting at a regional will only lead to a let down.

That's probably generous.

All trainees that were sent home from class have been receiving pay since this began and it looks like it'll be extended into next Spring.

Not banking on it, but it was a factor for my decision when considering investing in a career change. Before covid there was value on predicting by what age I should make it to a major (be it legacy or lcc). I never planned on leaving completely from my 9 day a month firefighter career to go to a regional and have to upgrade and work open time to make what I am already making right now.

Its not a set in stone prediction, but within a few years or by a certain age was factored into my decision to start the investment for flight training back in 2017. Of course now any prediction of pilot career advancement is out the window.
