Republic guy here who recently upgraded and will never see Chicago again. Sick of sacrificing way too much of my personal time commuting to LGA where it’s actually starting to affect things outside of work.
Obviously ORD is a big 170 base, but my goal ultimately is to move west. What’s your furtherst 170 base? Honestly, how do you like your company? I get it, it’s a regional they all have their pros and cons. But OO blows YX away in terms of base options and it’s not even close. I’m now convinced living in base is the highest QOL factor above everything else.

CRJ has a lot more movement. You could be a "forever" reserve Captain in PSP, LAX, FAT, SFO within 3 years. I would definintely choose this plane if you want to try to be left seat on the west coast.

Yes it sucks not living where you want (I've been away from home for 5 yrs hunting this mammoth) but doing the leg work upfront is vital.

SAN, LAX, SFO, PDX, SEA, BOI, SLC, DEN are all west coast 175 bases but also all are at least 4 years to touch the bases as a CA. movement is much quicker on the CRJ and if you are not willing to change planes the quickest upgrade here on the 175 is about 3-4 years in LGA/ORD. you will NOT have the QOL at OO as everyone at YX I talk to has but overall think it is not a bad company to work for.

On the topic of upgrades....
Where do people see CA upgrades going over the next few years, in particular on the CRJ? With major airline hiring, and a lot of the senior guys and/or lifers steadily transferring from the CRJ to the 175 does anyone think that the west coast CRJ CA spots (LAX, SFO, FAT, PSP, PXH, etc) will drop from 3ish years closer to 1-2 years?

Some 175 growth on the west coast would help bring the CRJ upgrade times down out there. There's plenty of people that aren't giving up living in base to transition.

Just heard DEN had a ton of lines awarded to ERJ FOs and CAs. Is the rumor becoming true? Past RSR said it would be split but hearing some ER7 CA on FB said he didnt expect a line and got one and I see DEN DVR has 0 reserve FOs for next month both fleets
