Its also the best business decision. Force upgrade the most qualified- not the least qualified. Which tells you exactly how it will occur.
There were only 30 some upgrades per month since March. The other shoe was always going to drop in the fall with that small a number upgrading. Senior FOs get to sleep in the bed they made.
Edit- I didn’t come up with this on my own. At May CQ the training dept told us how forced upgrades were going to shake out “this fall”. If you’re a senior FO you failed to read the writing on the wall. Some senior FOs did OBTW.

Inverse Seniority order is pretty well established in the ppm. I thought it would be from the top down too but I also think if the most senior FOs can avoid upgrade then that is great for them. I’m genuinely bummed for the families of FOs who didn’t upgrade for family reasons. For the others though…up or out for the sake of all the other families tied to this airline, pilots to parts clerks.

The latest email about forced upgrades mentioned IAH, MSP, ORD with the greatest need for captains on the ERJ side. So probably not long.

They did a ferry recently and their CA showed up in biz cas instead of uniform, and he just rolled with it because that’s what you do as a new FO. On day 1 he asked me if that was actually approved, and I said “yeah I think so,” but I always like to cite my sources (especially since I had no idea where that was actually written down).
I have hunted all over the FOM PPM SOPM Indoc slides and every other document I can think of, to no avail. I swear my Indoc instructor even went on a whole sidebar about how it’s so cool and how one time they got to list their family on the manifest for a 91 repo etc. I’ve also been rescued by un-uniformed crew before, so I’ve seen it with my own eyes. And I’ve seen pics of our new aircraft delivery ferries where they’re dressed down.

As a side note, deadheading to a flying assignment requires the uniform to be worn on the deadhead. Desdheads from a flying assignment do not.

Yes, but if you got the seat in a given domicile you can’t be displaced unless there is a displacement bid for a domicile closing. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. You will be doing nothing but reserve for years, count on that.

Someone qualified enough to be a DEC would be better off going to a LCC.

DECs ALWAYS do reserve for years since they are junior to every FO already on property the day they are hired. Forced upgrades (or not) of those FOs make very little difference.
