The CRJ will make you a better pilot. The ERJ will make you a better systems manager - without ever really understanding the systems. You'll work hard in the CRJ - especially the -200. The ERJ is more of a "gentleman's" airplane - with longer legs and generally better schedules. But the bottom line is that seniority. One seniority number could make a difference of whether you get the domicile you want, upgrade, transition, bid schedules - everything. You can transition down the road. My suggestion is to get that seniority number as soon as you can. You may plan on "paying your dues" and moving on quickly but this industry is dynamic. I know lots of guys that planned to move on ASAP - only to be stuck here 15 or 20 years later.

Seniority is everything.

I’m bidding 50% in DEN as an FO. 80-85 credit hours with 11-12 days off a month pretty consistently. I’m considering putting a transfer bid in for PSP. Seems like the lines out there give 13-18 days off with 65ish hours of credit. Are those FOs all flying composite lines or are they able to waive the 76 credit hr minimum? I’d be ok commuting to a few of those trips and pick up a trip or two at 150% in DEN, SFO, SLC, or LAX on my days off. I don’t mind commuting because I spend most of my days off visiting my gf on the west coast anyway. How badly will this backfire on me?

Default DEC questions

Hey y’all, I’ve got a CJO for an ERJ CA slot and wondering how soon I could hold a reserve line out of SEA. Also curious how many days a month to expect to get on reserve…18? 19? Any tips for the new guy would be much appreciated. PM would be great too. Cheers.

Why would you come here as a DEC? Literally the last place in regards to $$, progression, incentives, etc

If it’s strictly for west coast bases do you have your App in to Alaska or Avelo?

Checkride coming up and IOE survey has been filled out. Looking to the next phase of everything now. I know that everything can (and will) change by the time I wait out my ~8 weeks for IOE and get on the line. Just curious as of right now, what is reserve life like in MSP for CRJ FO? Could a brand new hire off IOE get LCR/PM Short call right off the bat? In general, is reserve lasting more than a month. Again, I know the numbers now are now the numbers that I'll be dealing with when I finish IOE in June/July...just curious for the current climate.

MSP, ORD and DTW move pretty quick from what I have seen. You can see the seniority under the flight ops crewmember tab on SWOL. If youre taking your checkride soon, expect IOE to be about 3 months out. I have waited 13 weeks from my checkride till my first day of IOE and its next week.

Thanks, checkride is in 3 weeks so I'm assuming my wait will likely be what your was.

It’s probably been answered before, but do you get a base assignment before or after IOE. Sorry, searched a bit but didn’t find it.

It is my understanding that you bid and receive your base well before IOE. And then you can continue to bid for bases each subsequent month thereafter so you can keep moving towards your #1 choice.

As far as your IOE flying, I think you can request the base you want to do your IOE at, but I do not know the specifics so perhaps someone else can chime in.
