I was at NGPA, attended all the meet and greets. It's pretty clear if you have 1000 hrs turbine from both 121 and PT135, involved in anything other than aviation, volunteer in things you are truly passionate about, past/current leadership skills and they like you - you will get a call. Heck even without 1000 turbine but around 2000 tt there are some good options these days. Quality and type of flight time is looked at. I am an Allies member of NGPA supporting the cause and that was noticed. I don't check any boxes and things are working out. Also went to Delta and AA evening events. That stuff gets noticed. So with a little bit of effort and life experience is going a long ways. Get out there and go to any of the expos if you want to help get noticed. Have your app reviewed as well by any of the providers, I thought I had a solid app but some little things really helped out.

A lot of my friends are starting to. Every day I change my mind about putting my name in the captain list or take a job is spirit etc call. This weekend I’m kinda feeling like sticking around for the left seat, let’s see if the rest of my trip falls apart and changes my mood.
A friend became an LCA a while back, finally got his fed ride, and is leaving for a big box hauler. Maybe 6 months actively doing LCA flying.
in regards to the second point. Are these trips getting dropped last minute like due to a callout? I can’t imagine they’ve got LCA trips sitting for weeks in open time. If it’s a last second drop and they need it covered, it makes sense to just farm it out. Or if the FOs on reserve are about to run out the clock for 100hr consolidation. I know they can do IOE assignments pretty last-minute. I had a trip last summer and didn’t even realize the captain was an LCA, until I got a DIOE. It was so close in, my block didn’t even show PEN3, it just went straight to DIOE. I forget exactly when but it couldn’t have been more than a day or two in advance.
Anyway I can only assume they’re farming those out for other reasons? By no means do I defend the company but with how desperate we need you guys in the left seat, there’s gotta be a reason they aren’t giving it to you.
The issue isn't that we aren't running LCA classes. The issue is that by the time those CAs have their Fed rides scheduled, half of the class has class dates at mainline carriers.
In all honesty I don't believe lacking LCAs is the main issue; it's our scheduling. I am currently waiting for CA IOE and on a daily basis I am seeing trips with LCAs in open time that are being assigned to FOs or broken up and split between reserve FOs. How does that make any sense?

“I’ll be waving at you guys from my AAirbus”. Maybe a couple hundred hours of turbine time in the right seat of a 175 and throws out the middle finger on the entire pilot group now that she’s holding a CJO. Not surprised she’s LAX based. Congratulations to American I guess for having a real piece of work join the team.
