What are sims looking like right now? Are new hires getting CA seat fills or are they pairing two new hires together?

You're paired with a classmate and swap seats during the sims.

Hey! I'm planning on doing some jumpseat observations in my gap between PV and Maneuvers in the next week.

Our ground instructors told us that we'd be able to follow the FO/CA on a walkaround if we're in uniform and I plan on doing that. Would it be considered odd for me to travel in uniform if I haven't even completed training yet? If not, what's the best way of communicating to the crew/gate agent (other than plain language that I just want to jumpseat for training purposes)

I'd definitely like to get some experience prior to maneuvers, especially since I have a 2 week gap till then! Thanks!

You can just tell the gate agent you'll be observing and want to "list for the actual." Depending on what airline its for you'll have to make sure you list in advance with ZED or just normal non rev listing. If you go in the morning and you're at the gate around 45 mins before departure you can probably catch the captain walking up and ask if they mind if you observe.

Great! I had a feeling that I'd need to book a nonrev spot (plus it helps me out in case the FAA's wants the jumpseat on a leg)

I'll definitely get there proper early and see if I can catch the CA beforehand as well! Appreciate it

No it’s not weird. I highly recommend hopping on some flights and watching some walk arounds. Shouldn’t be an issue.

wont happen all at once. But with LLCs about to start hiring the pilots that would normally go to regionals, it will happen over the next couple of years. And probably more than 50% as the ship hits the rock wall.

Thank you for your time, can you please give us information on your two week gap? Why so much time off? Isn’t training back to back? Thank you

No worries, I'm pretty low in seniority in my class and the CVG sims just happened to have that gap in the schedule. Other slots were better, specifically the SLC Sims that had a 4 day gap and then straight into maneuvers.

In short, I just got unlucky. Ground through Procedures was gapless. Once I start MV in 2 weeks, it'll be straight through to my checkride on the 18th of Feb

In uniform. You’ll soon wear business casual once per year: CQ.
With United you can list for the jump. With delta go to the gate. American & Alaska idk.
Be there 50 min early so you can grab a crew member and bring you down. If listed.
Ask questions. We like to help.
Feel free to note how things can differ on the line vs schoolhouse. But pls don’t correct us. We know.

DO work on your callouts RIGHT NOW.
Good luck.
