They will have to slash it with dwindling pilot supply. Getting hired with a major now is the only way off a sinking ship. As the flying at regionals gets crushed, those left behind will only go down with the ship. And it will be the lifers…..hanging on for dear life as their QOL gets eroded and the ship sinks deeper and deeper.
If you’ve spent enough time at OO you’d know why most those senior pilots are lifers (“I don’t want to commute to reserve when I’m driving 15 mins and making 150k”). I’ve sat next to Air Force men and women Captains who would be picked up next week by a Major if they actually submitted their apps. They don’t care about the money, want to see their kids grow up. I think of domicile’s like SAN, COS, PSP, and so on.

That’s awfully dramatic. You tell me, has OO surpassed 6,000 pilots? That’s probably a too big to fail situation. I’d hedge my bets on a buyout of the ship before it ever sinks. Then the lifers will be forced to commute to work (too bad).

The irony about that is reserve at a legacy is 1,000X better than having a line at a regional.

If you can drive to reserve at a place like UA, probably not a better gig tbh, but that’s not what I wrote is it?
The long game for me will be eventually driving to a work at a specific domicile when I can hold it. I’m just paying my dues, but it sucks atm.

I actually laughed out loud reading this. Commuting to reserve at a major is absolutely NOT better than holding a line with a short drive to work at a regional like SkyWest. Ask me how I know.

Friends of mine commuting are home for the same amount of time as I am right now with a line living in base, Getting 10x the pay.

I was commenting on why you have lifers at SkyWest. When you have CA’s making $150,000 driving 15 mins to work at one of their domiciles that majors don’t offer as hubs. If said individual left for UA/DL/AA, they would become a lifelong commuter. It would be especially tough their first year making substantially less (can they afford to have that happen?) and QOL wouldn’t exist when in comparison to what they had.
