There is a massive backlog of people trying to move CRJ CA -> ERJ CA as well as very senior CRJ FO -> ERJ CA that will have to be processed/awarded.
These all got bypassed over the last 6 months simply bc of training program limitations with the influx of new hires coming in. These people were also waiting for an ERJ CA slot throughout and even before COVID times.
The only way ERJ CA will go junior again is if OO does this same ERJ FO-ERJ CA restriction again (just like what happened with the opening of the ERJ LGA base years ago. They needed captain staffing and pronto, so they jammed through a large number of short course upgrades bc the full type + upgrade course would have taken too long.

Like I have always done though, I recommend picking the CRJ first, not bc it’s a ‘rite of passage’, but bc it will help you mentally be able to fly a jet much more proficiently than If you went straight to the ERJ with the insanely high level of automation.
Wrong lol, come on. Will it go 4-6 years for transition upgrades? Maybe? But it will not go 4 years for new hires FO’s on the 175 who only have to take the short course to upgrade.

That’s what it was Pre-COVID! You used to have to go ERJ FO -> CRJ CA -> ERJ CA if you wanted an upgrade prior to 4 yrs..
My initial course was full of those types.

Why would Skywest waste money having full ground school transition courses for ERJ FO’s and CRJ FO’s? Short courses are cheaper and produce CA’s at a faster rate, which will be a massive issue if the 2022 hiring numbers are legit.

They only offered transition for CA’s like me during Covid because of staffing on ERJ.

And precovid SkyWest was a CRJ airline, the future is 175 now.

Because seniority plays a part in the whole process.
Imagine if CC just arbitrarily said,” if you start on the CRJ, you will only ever be able to upgrade and fly on the CRJ… no transitions”
I think even SAPA might have something to say about that.

It sounds like you’re a biased CRJ CA that wants to switch over to the 175, CRJ’s are going out, 45 ERJ’s are moving in plus future contracts. It won’t be like precovid. I think you’re totally wrong. I also don’t hold bias in this conversation btw, so personally I don’t care much, but I do find your statements just completely wrong.

Nah man, I went CRJ FO -> ERJ FO -> ERJ CA because I saw the writing on the wall during 2020 and made the jump so that it could take the early ERJ upgrade.
I jumped HUNDREDS of CRJ FO’s that only wanted to upgrade CRJ FO -> ERJ CA.

I made a bit of a gamble and it paid off in the end.
How are the big leagues treating you?

Ok how about this. Let’s come back in a year and see if they only offered CRJ CA to ERJ CA transition class’s and CRJ short/transition course upgrades for 2022.

I’ll make a bet you’re completely wrong, let me know.

Let’s! Im super curious to see what they’re going to do over the next year.
I doubt it will be that black and white, but we’ll see.
I wish there was a “remind me in 365 days” feature like on Reddit lol.
