Any indication how the LCA numbers are holding up? Is the FAA dragging their feet on approvals or are they actually helping the situation by being proactive (can't believe I just said that about a gov't agency...lol).

Spirit just lowered its hiring minimums (1,500 total time), it’s starting earlier than I expected. The attrition the next few months before New Years will be severe, then 2022 will be substantially worse.
Tough for SkyWest to hire pilots who have CJO’s to spirit and frontier, or how about the new hire FO’s who leave after 6 months on property. It’s a smart play for LCC’s, they’ll chop off the regional models feet, while the legacy’s chop off the head.
I still believe killing the regional model is bad news for guys like me at UA, as we’ll have a tough time competing. I’m not cheering the demise of OO, but dang things could get interesting. If SkyWest management thinks they’re just going to hire more new pilots to cover the attrition then I’ve been giving them to much credit over the years.

wait, what? So spirit is potentially going to hire 1500 hour pilots with no jet time? So one can just jump the regional wagon altogether? Interesting!

getting hired is one thing. Training at Spirit is not all that forgiving from what I hear. OO training is stellar for CFIs. I’d highly recommend to do a 6 month detour to OO before attempting spirit

One could have 1500 hours and 1250 of that be in a jet. I know Key Lime was hiring into the right seat of their Dornier at 250 hours for a while.

That’s even worse for OO. What will start happening is new hires leaving shortly after passing initial IOE. That’s a lot of wasted money and training resources on a newly acquired Spirit pilot (I’m sure Frontier will follow). Then on top of that you have CA’s and LCA’s being picked off from, well everyone. They better get something figured before they get caught with their pants down.
