Seems to be pretty standard, UHC. Not awful, but not stellar. A couple different options. Basically a higher premium PPO and a lower premium HDHP. The HDHP is eligible for a HSA contribution from the company. Since I'm younger, single, no dependents, always had good health, I go for the cheapest HDHP. One time I saw someone do sort of a breakdown between the family PPO and the family HDHP assuming a hypothetical hospital event. I think the consensus was the HDHP plus HSA was an overall better value unless you're constantly seeing specialists and getting costly prescriptions, since even the PPO requires a bit out of pocket before it kicks in.
Anyway. I think the insurance is decent. I haven't had to use it, so I don't have any experience on that end. Seems to be pretty typical in terms of a group plan. My ex was a teacher and I think also had UHC, they offered the same plans, deductibles, out of pocket maxes, and I think the rates were similar too. I wouldn't say it's stellar, like some companies that cover 100% health benefits. But it's not the worst coverage I've heard of.
Young single guy in good health with the cheapest plan, I think I'm paying around $50/paycheck? The family PPO plan was a lot more obviously, like $300-400 a paycheck. I have a little bit of short term disability as a just-in-case, long term is covered by the company, and I have dental which is only a few bucks per paycheck. I didn't get any of the other supplemental stuff, or that Harvey Watt insurance. I also contribute $25/paycheck to my HSA, so it ends up being $600 annually (to match the $600 company contribution for singles; contribution is $1200 for family). So all in, I'm about $160 per month. If you get the family HDHP or the PPO, it will be significantly more. Maybe $800-900 per month depending what all you add on.

Health insurance is terrible relative what people think we get in the transportation world but relative of 90% of the the employers out there it is pretty good (same with our 401k). Compared to Mesa our health insurance is amazing.
With the HSA set your contribution to $125 per paycheck to max out the tax code. That money stays with you forever.

DEN vs COS
Hi all,
I am currently in CRJ training. I am interested to moving in base, and I’ve already decided on Denver as the city. Is there pros and cons to choosing COS over DEN as far as the trip structure goes? The town I was looking at is 40 min from DEN and 60 min from COS so not a huge difference in time. Obviously I’ll take what they’ll give me but I still gotta put down an ranking. Thanks!

Thanks for the insight. What do you mean by “out of the system”? I’m guessing you mean that DEN trips are to outstation and back to the hub, and repeat while COS might go between different hubs more?
So you wouldn’t really find yourself in LAX or SFO from DEN, but might from COS?
