Then go to a company that has the reserve rules you want and pay you want. But don’t be upset when SkyWest finally catches up and has better rules and pay than the other options. This industry is cyclical. No doubt we’re on the back end. I won’t disagree with that. But don’t blame the airline if they got out of the industry all together when there are other options. Can’t take the heat? Get out of the kitchen. Don’t blame the chef.

SkyWest has the worse reserve policy of all regionals. Sure, if you live in base, it might not be a bother to be placed on a flight first thing the next morning when your reserve starts later in the day. If a pilot commutes, it means that he must be in base the night before rather than fly in the morning of. That is more time away from family and home. This policy, in essence, takes days off away for commuters.

Exactly. Talk to some Envoy guys about their reserve/work rules and tell me again how ours are worse.

But things have changed, rules and policies have changed, and those on reserve here say it's never been worse.
But come on over the water's fine......

It took me about two years to crack under the old rules here.
I recently clicked the reserve tab in PBS to mull over a month of reserve but I didn’t understand it. There went a reserve holders chance at a line.

I left about a year ago so I’m not familiar with the “bid day off” schedule or what ever y’all use now, but reserve there wasn’t too horrible. Compared to the major I’m at now, y’all’s rules weren’t *that* much worse. Then again according to our pilot group we have “the worst rules in the industry”

Sure, in some cases it's simply the industry itself. But there are 2 people on this months attrition report that left because they were going to back on reserve. One of them lost their line due to the reduction in mountain flying and was going back on reserve. The other knew they would never take the upgrade only to go on reserve and figured what's the point?
Both of them said they could not tolerate any more of the terrible quality of life on SkyWest reserve, it wasn't worth it. Both of them said they may down the road try another regional or flying something else. SkyWest reserve is really that bad.
If you want to go to MSP, ORD, or DTW then sure. But if you plan to upgrade just know your life is going to major suck on reserve. We are very short staffed and it's only getting worse and the reserves are getting treated terribly.
I'm just not sure people know what they are getting into? And I can't imagine what the recruiters are telling them?

Walking away from aviation at this point in time is just really foolish, unless you have some sort of amazing home business or something. But otherwise, it just doesn’t make a lot of sense. My worst day at SkyWest is still not NEARLY as bad as my worst day working in an office.
Also, looking at your post history shows that you complain. A lot. I’m thinking you’d be miserable anywhere.
