With that said. we are getting 14 more planes for Alaska, and SAN is an AS only domicile.

I'm a soon to be retired USAF pilot looking for something to do, but only if it's in the San Diego area. Flying is just a hobby and has never been a dream jay-oh-bee for me. What's the chance of getting based in SAN right off the bat? What's the route and schedule like for guys based there? Under no circumstance will I do the commuting thing.
Thanks for any info.

Yeah... as an Air Force pilot myself who was out of the seat for 4.5 years I have to say military training prepared me well for the Skywest program because I already knew how to study in an environment like this.
That being said, if you’re not really into this as a career it’ll wear you out because it does require significant work, study and the ability to pay attention in class for 9 hours a day for 3 weeks. It’s not a cake walk for anyone, military or CFI. Just think about if it’s worth the investment if you’re doing this as a hobby. We had someone who was doing this as sort of a midlife crisis and he didn’t make it past the systems test.

That may be so right now. And there are plenty of pilots on the standing bid list waiting to get in.
I thought I read somewhere that the new AK aircraft would be going to PDX and SEA. I'm probably wrong though. Once SAN fills up, movement in to the base will slow.
And if you haven't noticed the company opens the domiciles with a limited number of crews and then staffs them at the level they want them at a few months later so they don't have to pay moving expenses. Could SAN be at the number now? There are currently 10 more FOs in SAN than CAs also. The DVR is only adding six CA and no FOs...

It’s all about attitude. First guy out in our class was a retired F-15 pilot. I’m an avid gamer and have been on both sides of a “rage quit” but I’ve never seen it in the work place. Very interesting. All the flight instructors excelled.
