So, what's the crashpad/hotel situation like for DTW? This is all new to me. I've been on some crashpad sites but not sure if I'm going about this in the best way since some of them show dates back to like 2015...especially since reserve will be first on the list.

With the parking situation in DTW i would just recommend hotels. You'll save time and money in the long run.

Ok thanks. Any tricks to finding hotels with respect to rates or is it just whatever you can find for cheap/how cheap you're comfortable with in terms of quality, etc.?

Ask around campus. The commuters will help. I know the quality inn had a decent crew rate. There are others. I would suggest the skywest DTW crew room page on Facebook.

I've been looking into this as well, since I like to know what I am getting into. If you have a Marriott or other hotel card then look at one of those hotels close to the airport. Ensure it has shuttle service and if at all possible a complimentary breakfast (hey trying to save a dime right?). I called some and asked if they had aircrew prices. Most said yes and I was averaging around $65-$75/night at the ones I called. Not too bad. You won't be on Reserve forever.

My first month on reserve I spent 200 dollars on a crashpad and nearly 50 dollars on gas for the crashpad car. I only slept in my crashpad bed 4 nights. Spent a few days there hanging out before getting called. I was used quite a bit. The next month I just stayed in hotels. 5 hotel rooms. Same cost essentially but didn't have to mess with finding my own transportation.

I accidentally said quality inn in a recent post. I forgot that is the go to ORD commuter hotel. Call the hotels north of DTW and ask for Crew rates.

I'm actually breaking down and just moving to DTW. Should be upgrading soon. Don't feel like commuting to reserve.
