20 is on the low side!! Use to be 30-40!! Plus if we truly get 100 aircraft that increases our size and attrition numbers.. (heard they want 5500 on the list) plus the 500-600 captains it brings with just growth.. they will need to train 40 captains a month just on the CRJ to keep up.. I dont think a 5 year contract will have anything to do with attracting pilots, Eagle had 16 year one!!! And the contract was voted in To get growth.. All newhires want to go to a "growing airline" for upgrade to a shinny new jet. And not a whole lot of scope left, rumored of replacement flying for struggling airlines. But who knows...

I guess I've just been so beaten down by the last 12-13 years of flying professionally. 9-11, age 65 and the 2008 crash all affected me personally and I'm sure many of the posters here. Things are extraordinarily good right now. I Iike it. I just keep in mind it isn't going to be that way forever.

After all, I'm the guy with all those years of 91/135 and flying with captains 10 years younger than I. I'm not resentful toward them, just aware they haven't seen it get really bad.

I really hope you are all spot on and it's as good as predicted. As always only time will tell.

More than 1600 of us completely agree with you on that. So many facets of this deal were insane.

A lie told a thousand times is still a lie. The growth was coming whether the TA passed or not.

That contract was signed because it ended the whipsaw between four regionals. But the bigger difference was that there wasn't a shortage of pilots at any regional back then. Your deal not only locks you in for five years at a time when pilots have more and more leverage with the passage of time but also lets management increase first year pay without having to negotiate again. That's more leverage given away.

Something unforeseen most likely will derail much of the projected growth at mainline. Historically, mainline hiring sprees come and go in bursts of five years. We are in the beginning of one now. It was said last year that 2017 would be a year of grand movement, for example's sake. That has still to come to pass. Twenty people leaving per month is actually rather embarassing. Perhaps this lack of movement on our seniority list is because the entirety of the majors prefer to hire ACMI, LCC and of course their favorite, military pilots over their much less experienced regional counterparts.

Any rational pilot hopes it shrinks, significantly.

Right? And with any luck replaced by near equivalent amounts of mainline flying. Fanciful thinking, I know...but hoping that the regional model stays in place isn't helping any of us besides Kool-Aid drinking lifers like Merciful Fate.

Nope. I'm opposed to the model. There will be more jobs at mainline if the regional model shrinks. There are already more jobs at Delta because they have upgauged. There won't be as many pilot jobs in total, but there will be more higher paying jobs.

You know nothing about me or my circumstances. Flying for a regional was my only opportunity to go to a major. I don't need a spot held for me. That's not that I'm espousing. I would like to see the model shrink by 75%.
