Don't worry once you see how many of the 2.0 crowd upgrade out of seniority in front of the new hires, you'll have plenty of time to feel bad for them.

Won't really need to feel bad for them. Even if those 2.0 guys come in and upgrade sooner, the new guys will have the opportunity to upgrade as soon as they hit captain mins and will be right back on top without starting at the bottom of CA seniority.

Exactly, will actually work out better for them since they will have people below them faster. Upgrades aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Exactly. Upgrades wont stop. And Captain attrition is 20-~ a month. So essentially if you get bypassed you won't be on reserve when you do upgrade...Heard from a newhire a short course (10 days) is in the works, they were testing it last month...

Verdean told us the short course was approved two years ago, but there were only two of us with CL-65 types which wasn't enough to run it. Are they working on one for the 175?

But no need back then... with the all supposed growth, seems like a lot of behind the sense stuff going in to support the growth.. also Heard the FA's will be doubling classes..

I honestly hope you all are right about upgrades but I don't believe the market conditions that create 20 captain a month attrition will last indefinitely.

Eventually the music is going to stop. It may not affect me since I have all minimums but 1000 121. However, for some of my classmates. Not so much.

Upgrades are quick at every airline now and will be for a long time. Most airlines have signing bonuses. Horizon pay is 10% higher +/- as is Republic. Skywest is now locked into a below inflation agreement for 5 years. While Skywest is stagnant for the next 5 years, other airlines will be getting raises to attract pilots.

I don't really seek Skywest as being competitive anymore. I expect their numbers to go down.

Air Wisconsin gives a 31k new hire bonus plus 10k at the end of the year. Pay is about the same so after a year you are ahead of the skywest new hire by 41k.

Horizon I hear is going to 20k bonus on their 175 too and their pay is higher by about 2 per hour so after a year you are 22k ahead there.

Endeavour pays 10k signing, 23k at the end of a year for retention, but pay is 8k less. So that makes you 25k ahead at endevour. Upgrade time is 6 months if qualified and 18 is just starting.

When I posted my question a couple of months ago asking why anyone would go anywhere but Skywest, I never expected they would lock themselves in like this for 5 years in such a tight pilot market. It defies logic to me.

Hope you seriously don't believe that. Skywest does way too much lift to be replaced easily

Why do you think it will stop anytime soon? I expect just the opposite. American changed their bidding system a year or so ago which gave them about 600 more crews equivalent but they are super short of pilots now from what I hear.

The past couple of years has been all about new pilots. Five years or so of no hiring meant no new people entering the field. Guys sat as FOs for years and have been upgrading but there is little experience behind them. I'm thinking that airlines will be fighting over the Expressjet guys soon and Captains will be in short supply.

There was a mass of hiring in 87 and 88 and retirements are starting to hit Delta and especially American. Horizon can't man their own planes let alone the other 9 they are getting this year.
