Unless the world melts down there is a low chance of this going the full five year term.

It seems the company/SAPA talking point now is that your longevity step increase is your raise.

The 20 year pay scale was and continues to be the biggest bag over our heads and yet we thank them for it.

First year guys are getting bonuses of 31000 at Air Wisconsin and 39000 if they are typed. At about all regionals, first year pilots make more than second and third year guys. At some they make more than a first or second year captains. The airlines figure that after year one people are basically locked in. And I guess they are correct, with our current structure.

This is stupid, stupid, stupid. Everyone reading this should be irate.

The bonuses need to stop. Pilot salaries in the regionals will skyrocket during the next few years, not just first year. Why would you want to lock yourselves in at the low rates that currently exist for the next 5 years?

If some idiot wants to fly planes at these low rates for the next 5 years, then let them. Skywest has 900+ guys who are qualified to fly as captains. If someone wants to have enough captains to fly 120 airplanes they have these choices:

1. They can go to Skywest;
2. They can go to Republic (which already pays more than Skywest)
3. They can go to an airline who will give a big enough incentive to guys at Skywest or Republic to go to that airline.

Otherwise, there are no captain qualified guys out there in any quantity, let alone quality.

Someone said that you can easily make upwards of 140,000 at Skywest, but there are not really a lot of guys who can do that. At 65 per hour you would have to credit 180 hours a month which is not easy to do.

Why does Skywest want to lock in pilot salaries, because they would be locking in their profit. Right now the real estate market is coming back in a lot of places. Would you not like to get an option to purchase for the next 5 years at today's prices plus 1%?
Because the bonus will help guys with families get through their first 2 years. Also, guys are not everyone is trying to stay at a regional for years. In and out and off to a major. So if you can snag a huge bonus along the way, great.

Myth:Second Year ORD CrJ FO Employee ####### has a yellow lambo, a lake house up on the north shore and a Scrooge McDuck money pit in his north burbs mansion.

Fact: I live in a shared room with 2 other people in the gentrified Logan Square and I base my budget around CTA, New Cut Above Shirts and Old Style.

OK if that then SKYWEST doesn't pay for your longevity, unlike every airline out there.
You can't call it both.

Funny how a number of very reasoned arguments have already been shared and discussed yet some posters insist on rebuttals consisting of "pilots are stupid, if they weren't they'd vote yes like me....."

Guys, this just in: Jelly of the month club for all existing employees if we vote yes. It's already on Tracy's desk ready to be signed. Heard it from a LCA. Confirmed with a sim tech.
