I would tend to agree with him, too, and I am not management. I also want more airplanes, and we will only acquire more of them by staying as competitive as we possibly can in the following years after it is voted upon. My pay bump will be when I upgrade to captain, then go onto a major faster because we received more aircraft. You and your kin that will vote nay must recall that you are at a regional which has no problems whatsoever drawing new-hires unlike our competitors which pathetically had to introduce $30k sign-on bonuses to attract new blood. We are pulling this off because we really ARE better, which is why our competition despises us. The bids put on new flying are razor thin. Mesa and GoJet can easily undercut us by going lower. Stop asking for more money, because you aren't needed so much at SkyWest as you reckon. Get your time, upgrade, move on to a major and enjoy the massive paychecks there. VOTE YES.

Voting yes on this thing is equivelent to going to a used car salesman and taking his first offer with out countering. That would be stupid.
This is no different, the company came to the table early to leave themselves contingency time in case it doesn't pass. They've also got money set aside in case they need to sweeten it more on a 2nd offer.
This company is very smart and well run. They would love to lock us in on this low ball offer for 4 years.
Ask anyone about the last contract. It was voted down, company came back with a better offer. It passed, we got planes, got flying, we didn't go the way of expressjet/mesa.
Same scenario do not take the first offer. Vote No

Reading this thread makes me sick. They've always said Skywest pilots were a bunch of koolaid drinkers, but holy crap, I can think of harsher words. People talking about dominating the market, growing the regionals, taking pay sacrifices now. Nobody has yet to say let's shift more flying to mainline where it belongs and create more higher paying mainline jobs, that regional pilots will eventually get. Close the regionals down holy balls.
I know they make you guys recite some kind of brain washing oath or pledge in new hire class, but this is ridiculous.

It sounds like a lot of Skywest pilots have no backbone and are company cheerleaders. Makes me sick to hear. DirkDiggler pretty much hit it on the head in the above post.

What if something stops you like it had to countless others in the past? You can't plan for that. The only thing in your control right now is to make Skywest the best compensated place with good QOL in case you have to spend your career here (not to mention that it wouldn't hurt if you had some compassion for others who won't be moving on).
The best thing for everyone is if the regional pilots became too expensive and the majors have to take the flying in house. Then everyone wins.

Ha ha. Nope..... Im just one of the vocal YES voters..( not many as "yes" people don't tend to frequent message boards). I also plan to leave. And i think this is a growth opportunity to get a better schedule, make more flying a 900/175 and get out. When i want to put my feet in the sand over contract disputes. It will be at a Major. Not here..

Congratulations on your Paycut.
Inflation has been running pretty low the last few years, about 1.6%. I expect it to go to about 2.5% as the economy picks up and illegal immigration is reduced. I'm expecting salary increases to be 3% plus. In order to keep pilots coming into the airlines I expect pilot salaries to be dramatically higher.
With a 2% raise, that barely keeps up with inflation, probably less than inflation.
The big carrot is more planes. So basically, Skywest is telling the pilots that "If you agree to fly the planes for less than the competition, and forgo the increases of the next few years, Skywest will get more planes and have more upgrades sooner."
Upgrades at all the airlines are pretty quick now. So they are asking you to take less for years in exchange for an upgrade a few months earlier?

Honest question how does a yes or no vote change the amount of flying at mainline? They seem totally unrelated...
